The Depressing Effects of Racial Discrimination. From Cornell News Service, here is a news release regarding fascinating research on the effects of racial discrimination.

The Depressing Effects of Racial Discrimination

Many studies have shown that experiencing chronic racial discrimination chips away at the mental health of African-Americans. But a new Cornell study sheds light on precisely how – and to what effect – chronic racial discrimination erodes mental health. The study found blacks may, in general, have poorer mental health as a result of two mechanisms: First, chronic exposure to racial discrimination leads to more experiences of daily discrimination and, second, it also results in an accumulation of daily negative events across various domains of life, from family and friends to health and finances. The International Coalition, launched in March 2004 by UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), consists of networks of cities interested in sharing their experiences to improve their policies against racism, discrimination, exclusion and intolerance. CCMARD addresses the need for a platform to broaden and strengthen the ability to protect and promote human rights through coordination and shared responsibility among local governments, civil society organizations and other democratic institutions.

It is based on a common desire to achieve two goals: Share experiences and lessons learned with others; Strengthen policies to counter all forms of discrimination to achieve greater social inclusion. 1. 2. 3. Racism in the United States

Legally sanctioned racism sanctioned privileges and rights for white people not granted to Native Americans, African Americans, Asian Americans, and Latin Americans. European Americans (particularly Anglo Americans) were privileged by law in matters of education, immigration, voting rights, citizenship, land acquisition, and criminal procedure over periods of time extending from the 17th century to the 1960s. Many non-Protestant European immigrant groups, particularly Jews, Irish people, Poles and Italians among others, suffered xenophobic exclusion and other forms of discrimination in American society. In the view of the U.S. Quotes About Racism (293 quotes) Black supremacy. Active organizations[edit] Nation of Islam[edit] The belief in sacrificial killing and ritualistic murder was part of the early Nation of Islam doctrine. Fard thought explicitly that it was the duty for every Muslim to offer as sacrifice four "Caucasian devils".[2] A portion of Fard's lesson reads as follows: Black racism and race hatred of non blacks.
