Gas Prices Soar in Iran as Subsidy Is Reduced

Is coal a backstop fuel for oil?

Usually when I draw the standard price path graph--say that 3 times fast--for the oil/renewable transition, I don't think to put coal as a transition fuel between oil and renewables. Maybe I should. http://www.env-econ.net/2010/12/is-coal-a-backstop-fuel-for-oil.html

A professor in Texas A&M University's chemical engineering department envisions "E. coli" as a future source of energy, helping to power our cars, homes and more. By genetically modifying the bacteria, Thomas Wood, a professor in the Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering, has "tweaked" a strain of E. coli so that it produces substantial amounts of hydrogen.

http://www.enn.com/energy/article/31549 By Pete Harrison LONDON (Reuters) - British Gas parent company Centrica said on Thursday it was evaluating a potential multi-billion pound increase in investment in renewable energy, largely targeted at offshore turbines. The move would help Britain achieve ambitious goals of producing 33 gigawatts of electricity from offshore wind by 2020, enough to power every UK home, at an overall cost of around 70 billion pounds ($136 billion).
