Resultado. International Policy Centre for Inclusive Growth. Indicadores ODM & Desenvolvimento - UN: Global poverty rate is decreasing but progress is yet to be felt by the most vulnerable in society - Eurostep. The UN launched its annual report on the state of progress of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) this week. The report argues that whilst global poverty rates are falling, progress has been uneven and achievement of some of the MDGs is still lagging behind — particularly in the poorest nations. The UN Millennium Development Goals Report 2011 argues there has been huge success in many of the 8 goals. The report states, the overall poverty rate is expected to fall below 15% by 2015 — well below the 23% target set in the MDGs. This would meet the target of the first MDG 1 of halving the proportion of people living on less than $1 day. The majority of progress can be attributed to poverty reduction in China and India, where the number of people living in extreme poverty in both countries fell by roughly 455 million between 1990 and 2005.

In addition, there are certain targets that remain difficult to achieve, particularly in light of food and financial crises. Indicadores ODM & Desenvolvimento - Sanitation. Sanitation is the hygienic means of promoting health through prevention of human contact with the hazards of wastes as well as the treatment and proper disposal of sewage wastewater. Hazards can be either physical, microbiological, biological or chemical agents of disease. Wastes that can cause health problems include human and animal feces, solid wastes, domestic wastewater (sewage, sullage, greywater), industrial wastes and agricultural wastes. Hygienic means of prevention can be by using engineering solutions (e.g. sewage and wastewater treatment), simple technologies (e.g. latrines, septic tanks), or even by personal hygiene practices (e.g. simple handwashing with soap).

The World Health Organization states that: "Sanitation generally refers to the provision of facilities and services for the safe disposal of human urine and feces. The term sanitation is applied to a wide range of subjects such as: Improved sanitation - refers to the management of human faeces at the household level. Indicadores ODM & Desenvolvimento - Measuring poverty. Map of world poverty by country, showing percentage of population living on less than $1.25 per day. Information is based on different years (2000-2006) for different countries. Data is missing for countries colored grey. The percentage of the world's population living on less than $1 per day has halved in 20 years. Most of this improvement has occurred in East and South Asia. The graph shows the 1981–2001 period. Life expectancy has been increasing and converging for most of the world.

Sub-Saharan Africa has recently seen a decline, partly related to the AIDS epidemic. Although the most severe poverty is in the developing world, there is evidence of poverty in every region. Absolute vs relative poverty[edit] When measured, poverty may be absolute or relative poverty. Relative poverty, in contrast, views poverty as socially defined and dependent on social context. Measurements[edit] The United States, in contrast, uses an absolute poverty measure. Definitions[edit] Income inequality[edit] SOCIALANALYSIS.ORG.
