Ages of Doctor Who actors on their debuts

I mentioned in passing in my review of The Eleventh Hour that there seems to be definite downward trend in the ages of the actors playing the title role in Doctor Who, with the new incumbent Matt Smith illustrating the trend particularly well. I said that I’d not done the analysis, but the idea tickled me, so here it is. First, the raw data: the eleven doctors to date with their birth dates, debut dates in the role, and age at that time: (Sorry about the formatting — I can’t find a way to get WordPress to display a table.)

Then I plotted those debut ages against Doctor Number and fitted a linear regression line: New Doctor. Peter Capaldi. TARDIS. The TARDIS[nb 1][1] (/ˈtɑrdɪs/; Time and Relative Dimension in Space)[nb 2] is a time machine and spacecraft in the British science fiction television programme Doctor Who and its associated spin-offs The Sarah Jane Adventures, Torchwood and more.

TARDIS

The unpredictability of the TARDIS's short-range guidance (relative to the size of the Universe) has often been a plot point in the Doctor's travels. Also in "The Doctor's Wife", the TARDIS reveals that much of this "unpredictability" was actually intentional on its part in order to get the Doctor "where [he] needed to go" as opposed to where he "wanted to go". Although "TARDIS" is a type of craft rather than a specific one, the Doctor's TARDIS is usually referred to as "the" TARDIS or, in some of the earlier serials, just as "the ship", "the blue box", "the capsule" or "the police box".

It was standardized by a fan, so it is not officially sanctioned, but it looks terribly cool. You can read a guide to Gallifreyan online or just read The Honey Badger's guide below. Legal Note! Doctor Who and Gallifreyan are © BBC, and this alphabet is © Loren Sherman. If you're reading this guide, that's probably because you found the original guide a bit too confusing. Letters Consonants Consonants take one of four forms and are modified by one of five different designs.

When writing out a word in Gallifreyan, it is done based on English spelling with the exception of the letter C and a few phonetic letters (CH, SH, TH NG). Consonant designs, that is, the dots or lines that differentiate the consonants, do not rely on placement or size to distinguish. Vowels Vowels are a bit trickier. A vowel does not have to be attached, and can stand on its own at the writer's discretion. Words.

They obsess over the words "Pond" and "Bad Wolf". The whovians are very strong. They can beat the shit out of other fandoms, and still have time for a cup of tea with their other fandoms, the supernaural fandom and the sherlock fandom. These fans are willing to donate their eyebrows for the current doctor, Matt Smith who seems to have no eyebrows. They fear nothing in the Earth except their whovian leader, Steven Moffat, the head writer of Doctor Who. The fandom is currently worldwide, planning on being universal (outerspace). Saying those phrases will result in a bloodbath, and it may cause hellucinations after. How Doctor Who Became My Religion. Recently, my son started watching Doctor Who on Netflix and after a few months of hearing about time vortexes and sonic screwdrivers, I decided to check it out for myself.

How Doctor Who Became My Religion

For those who don't know: Doctor Who is a British program that has been running almost continually since its 1963 debut. It involves a 900-year-old Time Lord from the destroyed planet of Gallifrey who travels through time and space inside the TARDIS -- a sentient spacecraft shaped like an old UK police call box. He also has the ability to regenerate, taking on new forms and new personalities which also has conveniently allowed for new actors to assume the role over the last fifty years. My childhood memories of Doctor Who were from the few Tom Baker episodes I saw on public television. I remembered the Doctor's fro, long scarf, and some truly terrible special effects, but that's about it. Not a Marx Brother. Still, I tuned in for a new episode, and a funny thing happened: I cried.
