All images courtesy masahiro minami | click to enlarge Sometimes called “white gold,” the ethereal beauty of porcelain led ancient cultures to believe they were fallen stars, often ascribing magical powers to them. In Southeast Asia, porcelain was even thought to heal the sick, or call down the gods. Porcelain has since taken on a life of it’s own but looking at Masahiro Minami’s latest creations, one can’t help but empathize with those of the past. For several years now Minami has been experimenting with the possibilities of translucent ceramics. Imagine walking into your bathroom at night and seeing this stunning sink! Our strategy was always going to be centered on challenging in a market populated by multinationals with vast marketing resources. Lotus approached us with the idea of using brand to support the technology and ultimately support their drive into new territories. We interviewed their team – including sales executives, partners and engineers – there were clear advantages to their ground breaking technology and of course the emotive elements are never far away so the passion and pride also needed to come across. The new branding leads with a strong graphic pattern based on the technology that makes Lotus different, namely the way the scalpel produces energy. We created an identity to stand up visually against competitors, communicated the product and was in-line with the message of efficiency.

Feb 02, 2013 nothing fancy minimal wallets by chieh ‘nothing fancy’ – minimal wallets by chieh ‘nothing fancy’, the non-stitched minimalist wallet, is the first product in a range of everyday accessories by taiwanese designer chieh re-imagined for a contemporary lifestyle. the wallet has its origins in the classic image of the bundle of banknotes held together by a rubber band. each wallet is created from a single piece of leather, requiring no stitching — shortening the time it takes to produce each one and saving on materials. the custom-made rubber bands make placing banknotes and credit cards into the pockets easy yet maintains the security of a traditional wallet – reducing the thickness through using minimal amounts of materials. the same concept is applied to a coin case, an iPhone holder and a passport holder for a range of simplified versions of various accessories. a wallet that has two sections, one for bank notes and one for credit cards chieh ting huang.

The case can house various electronic devices such as an iPad, Macbook Air 11″, and Samsung’s Galaxy Tab. The case only takes up a small space within the user’s bag, but serves its purpose as a protector and organizer for the various needs of today’s tech-savvy individuals. The material of the case is polyester felt, and the label material is made of polyurethane. The outside material comes only in grey, but the inside can come in grey or orange. The cases are intricately hand-made and come with various pockets that can house your business cards, headphones, or power supply to name a few. Concrete and Rubber Lamps by Renate Vos. Netherlands-based industrial designer Renate Vos created a series of experimental pendant lamps using an unusual combination of concrete and silicone rubber.

Concrete Bin is a self-produced oval light that is a mostly concrete shade with a border of translucent silicone rubber that emits a warm glow.
