Content Curation Is Listening and Engaging | Beth’s Blog

Content curation is the organizing, filtering and “making sense of” information on the web and sharing the very best pieces of content that you’ve cherry picked with your network. But finding and organizing the information is only half of the task. As Mari Smith points out in this video about why curation is important and some tools for doing it . By sharing the information and giving credit to the source where you found the link, you build relationships and a network.

20 plateformes de curation à expérimenter - CaddE-Réputation

http://caddereputation.over-blog.com/article-20-plateformes-de-curation-a-experimenter-64867079.html Curator, curation...

The art world can be a fickle place, but to Hans Ulrich Obrist it remains unfalteringly loyal. Co-director of London's Serpentine Gallery, founder of the Brutally Early Club (for busy people who breakfast at dawn), interviewer, archivist, and one of this year's Crunch festival speakers, he is, indisputably, an art world powerhouse. In 2009, he became the first curator ever to top ArtReview's 'Power 100', an accolade previously reserved for artists, gallerists, and collectors including Francois Pinault, Damien Hirst, Charles Saatchi and Larry Gagosian.

The OAIS Data Life Cycle at ICPSR Preservation planning at ICPSR follows OAIS standards from ingest of digital content to access by data consumers. ICPSR works with data producers to optimize data and documentation, and with consumers to enhance the utility of the data they need. Digital curation , which encompasses both data curation and digital preservation activities, is the active management and enhancement of trusted digital resources across the life cycle. A de facto standard has emerged in the area of digital curation -- the Reference Model for an Open Archival Information System (OAIS), produced by the NASA Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems. OAIS is an ISO standard that provides the functional framework for sustaining digital objects in managed repositories. ( More on OAIS )

Today content curation is " sold ", promoted and marketed as the latest and trendiest approach to content production, SEO visibility, reputation and traffic building . But is it really so? You could argue the ability to easily repurpose content has been fundamental to the success of the Internet. A small percentage of people create new content and then the masses quote, blog and mash it up. Content mobility is good, but the rampant re-sharing common online is not without its problems like how to reuse content fairly and “give props” to the original author. Will the new Curator’s Code system make a difference?
