Preservation Self-Assessment Program (PSAP) | Slides & Transparencies. "Slides" and "transparencies" are the two terms used interchangeably to refer to a semi-transparent positive image on a transparent support. That support may be either glass or plastic film. Glass slides are most often black-and-white, but may be hand-tinted. Autochromes are an early form of "full-color" glass slides, but are relatively rare. The opposite is true for film slides: color film slides are very common, while black-and-white are relatively infrequent.

The fact that slide/transparency images are conventionally positive should set them apart from glass and film negatives. Pdf/HW_Book_761_Pages_HiRes_v1c.pdf. Saving Your Treasures. In attics and garages, underneath beds, piled in corners or just closeted away, our heritage is slowly but surely disintegrating. Based on an NET Television program featuring professionals from the Nebraska State Historical Society's Gerald R. Ford Conservation Center and the State Library Commission, this site provides practical and effective methods to help ensure that artifacts, photographs, and documents will survive into the future. The television program features a wide variety of segments, including some shot on location around Nebraska, some shot in the highly specialized laboratories at the Ford Conservation Center in Omaha, and some shot at special Heirloom Health Clinics. The entire program, as well as video segments from four major distance learning workshops, is available from this Website.
