Salesforce says that it will use Dimdim’s technologies and development team to add new real-time communication capabilities to its Chatter collaboration platform. Today’s acquisition is the latest in a series of acquisitions in the collaboration and web communications arenas, including Salesforce’s acquisition of the email contact management company Etacts, and Skype’s announcement that they are buying mobile video provider Qik. Salesforce says that it plans to follow “the proven Facebook model of combining collaboration and communication into an integrated service.” With consumer sites like Facebook and Twitter creating expectations of real-time social sharing, it is important to incorporate such capabilities into the enterprise. Seesmic has rolled out a new version of their Android application, Seesmic for Android which includes Salesforce Chatter integration, a new UI and other improved features.

Salesforce Chatter , as you might know is a social networking collaboration application for the enterprise through which you can connect and share information securely with people at work in real-time. Using this application, you can: Read your Chatter feed View and make comments on the messages View your groups and their feeds View your contact and each person’s profile (including their email, phone number or address which you can call or view in Google Maps with a tap) Post your own updates with attachments. You can even cross post updates to and from Twitter or Google Buzz back in your internal Chatter account. The interface of the application has been completely rebuilt and the top right of the screen now contains the most common actions including composer and refresh buttons.
