Here he's profiled just after making his first film. Albert Brooks’ second album, A Star is Bought, is the best comedy record most of you have probably never heart. It was never released on CD and it’s not available on ITunes. And that’s a shame because the record—which was made in collaboration with Harry Shearer—is one of the finest comedy albums ever made. Never mind that it was nominated for a Grammy or that it was in many ways a precursor to faux-documentary style of This Is Spinal Tap, it Albert in top form. According to Paul Slansky, who wrote “Everybody Should Have an Albert” for The Village Voice in March 1979, Brooks owns the rights to A Star is Bought, he just isn’t motivated to re-release it.

Last Saturday I was at home in Venice, California, glued to the screen watching a live Ustream feed from Manhattan, where a few thousand protesters gathered to celebrate the three-month anniversary of Occupy Wall Street and to march on Times Square. As a writer and political commentator (@David_EHG), I am tempted to preface the video embedded below with bits of my own analysis. That brutality extended, once again, to journalists on the scene as officers not only obstructed those wearing press passes, but beat them as well. Below is a narrative of a police force out of control, told through the Tweets of those journalists who were on the scene, journalists who transitioned from being observers to becoming victims. Es ging um die Pressefreiheit – und die Presse blieb fern. Das Urteil lautete auf Deutsch übersetzt: Das Fotografieren von Prügelpolizisten gilt als Hinderung einer Amtshandlung. Erich Schmid Er war Präsident des Zürcher Gewerkschaftsbunds, er war Präsident der grössten Organisation von Medienschaffenden, der Gewerkschaft comedia (heute Syndicom), die 45‘000 Beschäftigte in der Kommunikationsbranche vertritt, er war im Vorstand des Schweizer Presserats – und er stand am Freitag vor den Schranken der Justiz, wo es um nichts weniger ging als um die Pressefreiheit in der Schweiz. Die grossen Zeitungen kamen nicht: als ginge sie dies alles nichts an. Nach dem Prozess vom Freitag ist es damit nun vorbei.
