Samuel Michael Fuller (August 12, 1912 – October 30, 1997) was an American screenwriter, novelist, and film director known for low-budget genre movies with controversial themes. Personal life[edit] Fuller wrote screenplays from the mid-1930s onwards. He also became a screenplay ghostwriter but always refused to tell interviewers which screenplays he wrote in that capacity. After his controversial film White Dog was shelved by Paramount Pictures, Fuller moved to France and never directed another American film.[7][8] Fuller eventually returned to America.

Career[edit] Writing and directing[edit] Fuller's third film, The Steel Helmet, established him as a major force. After the success of The Steel Helmet, Fuller was sought out by the major studios.
