Mason Jar Snow Globe Tutorial

I tend to grab mason jars from garage sales and thrift stores whenever I can find them (today I actually snagged a turquoise one!). They have so many uses, from baking to crafts projects. This weekend I turned a few of my mason jars into snow globes for Christmas! 2012 UPDATE: Since making this snow globe last year, I'm sad to say the dye from the tree turned the water in the globe green! I'm still trying to figure out a way to fix this issue (maybe coat the tree with a sealant first?). What you'll need: Any jar that seals Distilled Water Liquid Glycerin Glitter Figurines Epoxy/Crazy Glue (I found the glycerin at the drug store in the pharmacy section.)

Using the Crazy Glue, attach your figurines to the lid of the mason jar. Next, fill your jar almost to the top with distilled water. And you're done! I've made a To-Do list of all the things I'd like to get done (and keep busy with). Among updating some blog features and prepping my shop for a Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale, I'm hoping to make some Christmas decorations. I've been browsing the internet for a couple days and there are some great ideas out there that I can't wait to try! I couldn't find the original source for this photo but I imagine it involves hot gluing cinnamon sticks around candle votives. I think they are SO pretty and must smell delicious! Are you making your own decorations? Make a gift bow from a magazine page. In gift wrap emergencies when you've got the present but need some wrapping, here's an idea for turning a magazine page into a bow.

Make a gift bow from a magazine page

There may be better ways to stick this thing together, but I used what I had on hand: staples and adhesive glue dots. Double stick tape or brads should work, too. Cut a magazine page lengthwise into 9 strips, 3/4" wide. Leave 3 of the strips full length. Cut one inch off 3 of the strips. If you're using a magazine that's 10 1/2" tall, you'll end up with: 3 strips, 10 1/2" x 3/4" 3 strips, 9 1/2" x 3/4" 2 strips, 8 1/2" x 3/4" 1 strip, 3 1/2" x 3/4" Twist each strip to form a loop at both ends and staple it in the center. Layer the three longest pieces on top of each other, spacing them evenly and securing each with a glue dot. Use other papers, like a map of your city. Feather Christmas Ornaments! This is what I came up with: They're super cute and really easy. What you need: - Clear, empty ornaments - feathers (I used large inexpensive white ones and accented them with smaller more expensive teal feathers). - a long stick (I used a wooden skewer) - White ribbon Directions: Step 1: Open ornaments by removing top metal piece.

Step 2: Add first accent feather (teal feather). Step 3: Top with another accent feather and snap metal piece back into place. Step 4: Cut Ribbon (I cut mine about 10-12 inches long and trimmed once bow was tied and I was happy with length). Step 5: Give it as a gift, hang it on your tree, or use it to decorate however you choose! An Unconventional Christmas Tree.
