In spite of all the advice out there on how to network, I’m still seeing lots of people failing at two basic, yet vital elements to networking success. Want to know how you can be unforgettable to employers? The answer is the “rule of three.” Whether you’re giving a presentation, telling a story, submitting a proposal or selling your services – keep in mind the “Rule of Three.” Have you ever noticed the pattern of “3″ in many of our traditional childhood stories — three blind mice, the three stooges, the three little pigs, Goldilocks’ three bears, three wishes… the list goes on and on. Research has shown there is a rationale behind the use of “three” in our societal story-telling – our brains tend to naturally think in threes. Knowing the “Rule of Three” and using it in your presentations, your “elevator pitch,” your cover letter, your letter to that important client, and other key communication pieces can be incredibly impactful.

Last Updated Sep 30, 2010 12:32 PM EDT One of the hardest things about being unemployed is worrying that you will not end up in a good job. People want to be picky, but that's a mistake. You should take any job. It really doesn't matter. You're better off taking any job and then start trading up.

Here's why: 1) Structure leads to achievement People who add structure to their day are more likely to get other stuff done. 2) You don't need time to job-hunt. Often, people think they need an open day to job hunt. 3) Telling yourself you can do anything is paralyzing If you tell yourself the world is at your fingertips and you must get a good job, you end up not taking anything. 4) Picking jobs is a lot of luck You know the saying that lucky people create their own luck? 5) A job does not define youYou are not going to find happiness from your job - that comes from personal relationships. The good news is that when you're unemployed you are at an inflection point.
