Cardboard Art. 100% Paper Home: Inflammable Interior & Furniture Design. Imagine stepping into a real life Alice in Wonderland world, or walking inside the movie Waking Life. Sometimes art lets us explore design options that would never world in the real world, but are inspiring nonetheless – like this series of sketched spaces and papercraft furnishings, which constitute what may be the most fire-vulnerable paper structure on the planet. From kitchen appliances to bathroom fixtures, built-in cupboards to free-standing cabinets, every interior object was constructed by artist Luise Valdez as a combination of quick-sketch black marker and rough-cut white cardboard (including some pieces of recycled pizza boxes).

As for electricity, plumbing and other such amenities … well, you will just have to suspend your disbelief for a bit inside this space. Cooking implements and eating utensils are simply flat cut-outs while sinks, shelves and other three-dimensional kitchen elements are built to hold up the smaller pieces.

Postage Stamp Bowl - by Amanda Hone from Repurposed art exhibit. Postage stamps - I love them. In the UK, we have two different types of stamp in general use. Commemoratives which are issued every other month or so and as their name suggests are used to commemorate important events and anniversaries and Definitives. These stamps are the regular every-day stamps issued in a variety of different values so that any combination of postage can be made up from them. They are also known as Machin stamps after the artist who originally designed the queen's side view portrait used on them.

Effemera's Paper & Book Jewelry. Paper-Thin Prom: Paper Designer Dresses. Clothed in paper as skinny as she is, this model looks about as natural and comfortable as the dresses designed around her. Even as women’s evening wear goes, these works may be black-and-white in the literal sense but they are anything but casual or simple – and as a cocktail dress, well, one would have to be extra careful not to spill.

Russian designers Alexandra Zaharova & Ilya Plotnikov of Doberman Studio specialize in the unusual, working with art, advertising, fashion, photography and (as this project illustrates) the intersection of these and other design fields. A Metropolis-worthy parody, these works poke fun in a postmodern way at the cosmopolitan lives of fashion-savvy urbanites – whether intentionally or not. Each dress highlights fragile and uncomfortable extremes of contemporary fashion design, while simultaneously impressing us with the clean aesthetic of model, dress and photo combined. DIY Paper Dress Design: Creative Fashion for Tax Season. Everyone loves being done with taxes and wishes throughout the whole process they could simple shred the entire set of paperwork and finish with it once and for all.

Rather than focus on the negative, this clever amateur fashion designer took her tax forms, shredded them and created something marvelous out of their ruins: a tax form dress. Using a custom-fit, duct-taped under-layer to support the shaping of the dress each part was weaved to fit the needs of the particular section and to create a variety of styles throughout. While the pink and white results certainly look a little rough around the edges that is also the idea: to show off the origins, to highlight the illicit reveling done in a dress made to poke fun at the federal government and that time of year we all love to hate. This is probably my last entry ever, as I prepare to meet my watery end tomorrow afternoon. So I figured it was a good time to show some boat pictures from our boat show this afternoon, and talk about matters of boat design. (edited to add some more comments on boat design knowledge.) First, a peek at the overall show. Lots of boats (three class of about 18 each are participating, after all).

Most of them are pretty decent designs, and will get their paddlers across the pool twice, which is the requirement for the project. There's not a lot of room for new discoveries in boat design. This is what works in a cardboard boat: a pointy end (to keep you going straight ahead), a wide flat bottom (to keep you stable), and sides that are high enough to keep the water out but low enough to allow you to paddle.

I've purchased two ping-pong paddles for this purpose. So, on to my bets for disasters tomorrow. I do not know what this guy was thinking. Anyway. Here's our first pontoon. Oh, heavens.
