Mala (prayer beads, rosaries ~ the name apparently derives from the compressed rose petals from which these were originally made, worry beads) have been used for centuries in almost every religious tradition (esp. Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam and Christianity) as an aid to prayer and meditation. In Buddhism and Hinduism a full mala should have a 108 beads (a sacred number), and a shorter mala (i.e. a wrist mala, designed to be worn round the wrist) usually has 27 (108/4). We stock a variety of mala, in various sizes, fashioned from materials including fragrant sandalwood, other woods, and yak bone. http://www.dharma-store.com/mala-buddhist-prayer-beads-c-5.html
