Quick Recipe: Maple Pecan Blondies with Maple Butter Glaze Recipes from The Kitchn

He and my mother-in-law keep to a gloriously healthy diet. They have a bountiful garden behind their small urban home, and they eat two modest home-cooked meals a day, one after a vigorous early morning swim. However, on special occasions, restraint vanishes and I find a lot of pleasure in offering Jim his two favorite foods in the whole world: Butter and maple syrup.

One such occasion presented itself this past week when Jim showed up at the house my husband and I have been painstakingly renovating for months just to help with the project nearest to my heart: The kitchen. Cheerfully assembling kitchen cabinets? I haven't talked much about my home renovation and kitchen project yet here on The Kitchn — perhaps out of superstition, and also exhaustion. Putting cabinets together, assembly line style! I felt like the moment called for an extra helping of maple syrup and butter — together. Maple Pecan Blondies. Pour over the cherry brandy so that the cake soaks it up, and then top with the drained cherries. Cover with plastic wrap and leave to macerate while you make the custard. Melt the chocolate on low to medium heat in the microwave, checking after 2 minutes, though it will probably need 4 minutes. Review: Make the Bread, Buy the Butter.

My friend Janssen loves this book.

Review: Make the Bread, Buy the Butter

I loved her description of it so much, that I even started telling people about it before I had cracked it open myself. She mentioned in her review that she contacted the publisher directly to ask for a review copy, and I figured it wouldn’t hurt for me to do the same. They agreed to send one my way in exchange for this review. Make the Bread, Buy the Butter is written by Jennifer Reese of the blog The Tipsy Baker. Quick Dinner Recipe: Pumpkin & Ricotta Pasta Casserole

The key word here is good. We've all had goopy, unappetizing messes inflicted upon us in the name of casseroles, but that really should be the deviation — not the norm. I love casseroles — the good ones. In fact, I just spent a year writing an entire book with 225 recipes for modern, fresh casseroles. This recipe isn't in the book, but it's very much in the spirit of things.

This casserole includes many of my favorite casserole elements. Jalapeno Cheddar Cornbread Recipe. (Spiked) Maple Apple Cider Recipe. In the fall and winter I love a warm, cozy cocktail.

(Spiked) Maple Apple Cider Recipe

Spiked apple cider is one of my favorite treats. This recipe is not super boozy, but if you don't drink try omitting the liquor and adding a tablespoon of real maple syrup to your cider. :) In a teapot, combine: 5 cups apple cider, 2 shots maple flavored whiskey, 2 shots apple liqueur (I love Thatcher's!) , 4 cinnamon sticks, 1/2 an apple (sliced), 1/2 cup orange juice. Holiday Punch Bowls. Serving punch bowls is my number one time-saving tip for holiday parties!

Holiday Punch Bowls

I LOVE mixing custom cocktails for each guests and do so at all of my smaller parties. But when you have more guests OR are serving food, it's nice to have drinks that serve themselves like punch and a couple bottles of wine. Eggnog French Toast. Confession: I hated eggnog growing up.

Eggnog French Toast

Do most kids like eggnog? It's sort of weird, right? It's super thick milk that tastes kind of egg-y. Not really kid-friendly. Plus, lots of eggnogs tend to be spiked. Whiskey Cinnamon Rolls. Whiskey cinnamon rolls.

Breakfast Bake Recipe : Jamie Deen. Maple Oat Breakfast Pie. This is breakfast? Really? I read over the recipe three times, then I packed my bags and moved to Vermont. Except it is really cold in this part of Vermont, 45 below zero. So cold it is hard to get the syrup to pour out of the container. Ok, I'm not really in Vermont.
