Www.hellhammer.org. Demo Archives II. Mayhem was formed in autumn of 1984 by Euronymous (guitar), Manheim (drums) and Necrobutcher (bass). The name "Mayhem" was derived from the title of a Venom song, "Mayhem With Mercy". They acquired a session vocalist called Messiah and played a small gig for about 300-400 discobangers in a silly rock show in the town where they lived. After about 15 min of playing they crushed a bass, showed their asses and left! After some time Messiah went back to his own band. Mayhem's first recording effort came in 1986 with the release of the cult demo, "Pure Fucking Armageddon".
