Towards the future of the real-time Web: Netvibes Instant Update architecture. Netvibes July 13th 2009 at 08:35 PM Last week at the Techcrunch Real Time Stream CrunchUp we presented an promising new real-time feed architecture we’ve been working on. It’s fascinating how rapidly the world is embracing Twitter feeds and other real-time syndication technologies. However, traditional media content—in particular blog posts, news sites and RSS feeds—are lagging far behind.

Literally. Our engineers have been busy building an exciting new technology that will provide near real-time updates for feeds and media content. In your everyday use of Netvibes, it means that you will get newly published articles the moment they are published—no waiting and no refreshing. We think that this responsiveness can make a big difference in the way we experience the Web, pushing live events and news to us the instant they occur. The challenge, however, is managing this constant stream of information. Source: Where we stand and what we stand for - Netvibes.com Blog. RealNetworks Delays Game Division Spin-Off Plans, Grows 19% Despite claims made earlier this year, multimedia company RealNetworks has pushed back its plans to spin off its Real Games division into a separate entity -- though the intent remains as a long-term goal. Citing "the macro economic environment and current capital-markets disarray," Real moved the spin-off plans out of 2008, and gave no updated target deadline.

In the third quarter, the games division, which distributes PC casual titles as well as developing its own, saw its revenue grow 19 percent year-over-year to $34.2 million, largely due to recently-acquired digital distributor Trymedia. During the same period, RealNetworks overall lost $4.5 million on revenues of $152 million. Real Games saw the most significant growth among the parent company's various media groups.

For the first time, the casual-oriented game company is also moving into console publishing, with NinjaBee's Boingz slated for WiiWare. Worldometer : World Statistics in Real Time. Getting Real.
