Pour beaucoup c’est une façon de battre la mesure lorsque les mains sont occupées par l’utilisation d’un instrument, mais il existe une façon « correcte » de battre la mesure. Battre la mesure, en quoi cela consiste-t-il ? En solfège, une mesure consiste en une succession de temps forts et faibles qui vont se répeter de façon cyclique, en commençant toujours par un temps fort (exemple: UN, deux, trois, quatre, UN, deux, trois, quatre…). La succession de plusieurs mesures permet de diviser un morceau en sections d’égales durées.

On indique la mesure en début de portée, après la clef et l’armure, par un numérateur (chiffre supérieur) pour définir le nombre de notes qui compose la mesure, et un dénominateur (chiffre inférieur) pour la valeur des notes par rapport à la ronde (unité de temps de référence).
