Strategies for Apologetics - Thinking Christian

Brian’s website is one of the best for an abundance of resources and training in apologetics. I really appreciate his taking time to do this interview. One of our main topics was strategies for apologetics. It seems to me that the apologetics enterprise (the apologetics industry, so to speak) is well advanced in its answers to questions about the faith, but that when it comes to connecting that to everyday needs of church and culture, it has some catching up to do. There are exceptions. There are others like these, more than I could list here. Better than that, he has published a very strategic book on how to do it. It’s also highly entertaining, readable, and informative. Tactics is strategic in that it makes practical apologetics accessible to any Christian. His advice is intensely practical for real-life situations. So what do you do? CARM - Christian Apologetics and Research Ministry.

Biblical inerrancy is the doctrine that the Bible, in its original manuscripts, is accurate and totally free from error of any kind; that "Scripture in the original manuscripts does not affirm anything that is contrary to fact".[1] Some equate inerrancy with infallibility; others do not.[2][3] Biblical inerrancy should not be confused with Biblical literalism.

Biblical inerrancy

A formal statement in favor of biblical inerrancy, the "Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy", was published in the Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society in 1978.[4] The signatories to the "Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy" assert that since there are no extant original manuscripts of the Bible, those which exist cannot be considered inerrant. The signatories also maintain that the existing manuscripts are faithful copies of the original manuscripts. Terms and opinions[edit] Another often-used adjective to characterize the Bible is "infallible". According to H. The document then cites 2 Timothy 3:16-17.[12] BibleContradictions-ReasonProject.png (PNG Image, 3327x4418 pixels) - Scaled (14%) Criterion of multiple attestation. The criterion of multiple attestation or independent attestation is a tool used by Biblical scholars to help determine whether certain actions or sayings by Jesus in the New Testament are from Historical Jesus.

Criterion of multiple attestation

Simply put, the more independent witnesses that report an event or saying, the better. See Criteria of authenticity and the Historical Jesus. Examples of its use[edit] The gospels are not always independent of each other. Matthew and Luke, for example, probably had Mark's gospel sitting right in front of them when they were writing. Multiple attestation has a certain kind of objectivity. For example the "Kingdom of God" motif appears in "Mark, Q, the Gospel of the Hebrews, special Lucan tradition, and John, with echoes in Paul, despite the fact that 'Kingdom of God' is not Paul's preferred way of speaking. " Limitations[edit] This criterion cannot be used for sources that are not independent.
