Amateur Radio Repeaters

When a repeater receives below the transmit frequency it is termed a minus offset. A repeater that transmits on 147.13 MHz and receives on 147.73 has a plus offset. Repeater input frequencies are given as either + or - signs to indicate whether the user's transmit frequency is above or below the repeater transmit frequency. Repeaters that have outputs in the lower part of the 146 MHz portion are often plus offsets while those operating in the upper portion of 146 MHz are minus offsets. Most VOIP systems can be accessed either via RF links which connect repeaters or simplex frequencies to the VOIP system over the internet. This allows users of one amateur repeater to talk to other hams on a distant frequency or simplex frequency. In general, a link radio is used to funnel analog audio from the RF frequency to a PC soundcard, which digitizes the audio. Find EchoLink, IRLP Nodes - KB6NU's Ham Radio Blog. RepeaterBook.com. EchoLink is a computer-based Amateur Radio system distributed free of charge that allows radio amateurs to communicate with other amateur radio operators using Voice over IP (VoIP) technology on the Internet for at least part of the path between them.

Echolink

It was designed by Jonathan Taylor, a radio amateur with callsign K1RFD. The system allows reliable worldwide connections to be made between radio amateurs, greatly enhancing Amateur Radio's communications capabilities. In essence it is the same as other VoIP applications (such as Skype), but with the unique addition of the ability to link to an amateur radio station's transceiver. Thus any low-power handheld amateur radio transceiver which can contact a local Echolink node (A node is an active Echolink station with a transceiver attached) can then use the Internet connection of that station to send their transmission via VOIP to any other active Echolink node, world-wide.
