XNA is synthetic DNA that's stronger than the real thing. But scientists have been synthesizing XNA molecules for well over a decade.

XNA is synthetic DNA that's stronger than the real thing

Your link appears not to be a link, but certainly PNAs (peptide nucleic acids - not really nucleic acids, but still ...) and GNAs (glycol nucleic acids) have been documented since the early '90s, so, yes, considerably more than a decade. "Overall, this leads to high cost and a high failure rate for potential therapies - there is still only a single licenced [nucleic acid-based] drug on the market (Macugen).

" Point take, but, well, this is hardly just an issue with nucleic acid-based therapies, is it? And thus, these molecules would need little or no adaptation for therapeutic (or diagnostic) use. "Since these molecules can now be selected directly on XNA, medicinal chemistry should no longer be limiting," says Pinheiro. What? Also, to claim that "these molecules would need little or no adaptation for therapeutic (or diagnostic) use" is utterly disingenuous.

Actually, if I'm not mistaken, there has for years been debate over what the line between a "different species", a "subspecies", and a "slightly different population" would be.

Ugliness is nature's way of keeping species from interbreeding

I mean, some cases are obvious - it's clear that fish and humans are different species, because we don't even reproduce the same way or breath the same way or anything important like that. But what of dogs and wolves? They can interbred perfectly fine, producing fertile offspring even when the pairing is a wild wolf and a heavily-domesticated dog breed like a Border Collie. But speaking of dogs,, what of the chihuahua and the Great Dane? You can mate a male chihuahua to a female Great Dane just fine (in fact, it tends mostly to just produce a smaller Great Dane), but if you were to mate a female chihuahua to male Great Dane, the size difference could prove disastrous for the female and therefore the offspring.
