Posted: 15 November 2011 Urgent -- right now, the New York City Police are using batons and pepper spray to forcibly evict the peaceful Occupy Wall St protesters from Liberty Plaza. It’s outrageous! New York’s billionaire mayor, Mike Bloomberg, waited for the cover of night to launch this shady operation, and is counting on the world to sleep through it. http://www.avaaz.org/en/emergency_ows_eviction/

The World vs Wall Street

If You Don't Speak Up, They Will Speak For You... - Cuéntame

Don’t let anti-immigrant rhetoric drive the immigration debate. Nativist, racist and fear-mongering hate groups are working hard to drive their narrative on immigration. For years now, anti-immigrant groups have successfully infused their message into the national immigration debate. Influencing local politicians and national figures - with the same talking points: This has resulted in dangerous policies that have led to flagrant violation of human rights. http://www.mycuentame.org/ifyoudont
The conflict between Israel and Palestine at times seems impossible to solve, but this map, from the Committee for Peace in Israel and Palestine, makes one of the root causes painfully clear: http://en.avaaz.org/1108/palestine-gaza-statehood-bid-un

Are the Koch brothers denying your vote?

Attorney General Eric Holder, Voter suppression laws passed around the U.S. will put ballot boxes out of reach for millions of Americans eligible to vote, many of whom are people of color, physically disabled, students and seniors.
It's shocking that this is happening in 2011: At 207 "clinics" across Ecuador, lesbians are held captive, raped, tortured, starved and beaten in an attempt to make them straight. 1 http://act.credoaction.com/campaign/ecuador_torture/?rc=tw1

Stop the rape and torture of lesbians in Ecuador.

Why is a former Monsanto lobbyist currently serving as the FDA's food safety czar waging war on small dairy farms that produce fresh milk? While factory farm operators are getting away with serious food safety violations, raw milk dairy farmers and distributors across the country have been subjected to armed raids and hauled away in handcuffs.

Somalia: No authority to rape

Hi, I just signed a petition to protect Somalia’s women from rape, after a woman and a journalist who reported rape were sentenced to a year in jail. Will you join me? http://www.avaaz.org/en/petition/Somalia_No_Authority_to_Rape/?wSvizbb
Victory! The House has finally passed the Senate version of the Violence Against Women Act, by a vote of 286 to 138 -- with all 138 votes against the bill coming from Republicans. Now we need to make it clear to those Republicans that their continued stance against this domestic violence prevention bill -- even after it was clearly going to pass -- is wrong and shameful.

Victory: The Violence Against Women Act finally passed Congress. But no thanks to the 138 Republicans who voted against it.

Some of the nation's largest banks are looking to make obscene profits by exploiting some of the country's poorest people, and we need to make sure federal banking regulators put a stop to it. Banks like Wells Fargo, U.S. Bank, Fifth Third Bank and Regions Bank have started marketing payday loans to their customers. These short-term, high-cost loans are blatantly predatory.

Stop big banks from pushing poor families further into poverty

The Supreme Court recently decided to hear a case challenging the constitutionality of the new health care reform bill passed by Congress last year, and Justice Clarence Thomas has a supreme ethical conflict.

Despite Facebook reporting profits of over $1.1 billion in 2012, the company is expected to pay no federal or state income taxes. In fact, Facebook will receive net tax refunds totaling $429 million, because tax deductions on executive stock options can be written off as salary deductions. This is a perfect example of how the deficit and spending cuts are driven by loopholes that allow corporations and wealthy Americans to get all the breaks.
