New York's Victory Against Big Gas: Frackers, Get Packing. A major battle in America's frack war came to a head in New York this week.

New York's Victory Against Big Gas: Frackers, Get Packing

Opponents of drilling in the state, which sits on hefty reserves of methane gas locked within the Marcellus Shale formation, mobilized by the thousands to successfully maintain a 2010 moratorium on hydraulic fracturing -- a victory that could have wide implications on the fight to curb and ultimately ban the extraction method elsewhere in the country. The moratorium initially went into effect under former New York Governor David Paterson. And the state's current governor, Andrew Cuomo, who received more energy industry contributions than any gubernatorial candidate in the 2010 election, was expected to lift the moratorium by the end of this month. But in order to issue drilling permits, Cuomo needs a "doctor's note": a review of fracking's potential health impacts, issued by the New York Department of Health. If February 27 comes and goes without regulations being filed, the approval process begins anew. Guerilla Open Access Manifesto.

From Subculture to Hegemony: Transversal Strategies of the New Right in Neofolk and Martial Industrial. Neo-Folk and Martial Industrial are two sub-categories of Industrial Music, which developed in the 1980’s.

Industrial as such was a direction that – parallel to Punk Rock – worked with the latest electronics in order to create an aesthetic of futuristic noise machines of the late 20th century and research extreme zones of contemporary society and history. Throbbing Gristle already thematized concentration camps, serial killers, Aleister Crowley etc by using cut-up techniques of William S. Burroughs and Brion Gysin and thus with strategies of liberation from brain washing. Similarly, Cabaret Voltaire were said to wage a “propaganda war against the propaganda war” (Industrial Culture Handbook). With SPK this was combined with a critique of Psychiatry and a presentation of extremes of the body and death. Death In June has already been the subject of an article in datacide by Stewart Home. Right wing sub-cultures are still mostly associated with White Power rock, Skinhead and Oi! Home.
