Foto: dpa Es sind keineswegs nur AfD- oder Pegida-AnhängerInnen, die sich die Frage stellen, ob die deutschen Grenzen noch sicher sind und wie Millionen von Flüchtlingen integriert werden können. Auch ansonsten durchaus mittig denkende, akademisch gebildete BürgerInnen, aber allemal auch PolitikerInnen aller Parteien stellen sich diese Frage. Die öffentliche Meinung schwankt dabei zwischen einer Integration in ein Volk, eine Kultur, eine Werteordnung oder in eine Nation hin und her. Daher ist zunächst zwischen der Bevölkerung eines Staates und seiner BürgerInnenschaft zu unterscheiden.
Wenn das einleuchtet, folgt daraus im Umkehrschluss, dass Staaten in allererster Linie territorial begrenzte „Rechtsgemeinschaften“ sind. Sprache als Integrationskriterium Welcher Begriff ist realitätsnah?

Paris. London. Saying these names likely evokes a sense of place in many people. Maybe what’s evoked is the knowledge of a place on a map, a sense of the culture there, or the memory of a trip. But what do these toponyms we can so casually reference actually mean? The purpose here is not to retread already well-trod philosophical grounds, but rather to highlight the sorts of very real problems that can confront us when trying to align multiple datasets containing placenames. One component of this involves aligning names in Pleiades and GeoNames, allowing us to get a “free” mapping to the other resource wherever we have a relationship to only one, and greatly expanding our graph of knowledge.
