The Black Keys is an American rock band formed in Akron , Ohio in 2001. The group consists of Dan Auerbach (guitar, vocals) and Patrick Carney (drums). The group began as an independent act founded after the duo dropped out of college, and they eventually emerged among a second wave of popular garage rock revival artists from the 2000s. Brothers is the sixth studio album by American blues-rock duo The Black Keys . The album was announced on March 2, 2010 by Pitchfork Media [ 1 ] and became the band's third release from Nonesuch Records on May 18, 2010. The album debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200 with approximately 73,000 copies sold in the first week released, making the band's second-highest charting album to date. [ 2 ] Brothers has sold 847,000 copies. [ 3 ] In January 2011, the album was certified Gold by the RIAA for shipping over 500,000 copies. [ 4 ] The album won 3 Grammy Awards , including honors for Best Alternative Music Album . [ 5 ]LCD Soundsystem was an American -based dance-punk band from New York City . It was fronted by American singer-songwriter and producer James Murphy , co-founder of record label DFA Records . The group released three critically acclaimed albums - LCD Soundsystem , Sound of Silver and This Is Happening with the last charting in the Billboard Top 10 . On February 5, 2011, a statement was posted on the band's website that announced its disbandment following a farewell concert, which took place on April 2, 2011, at Madison Square Garden . The Velvet Underground was an American rock band formed in New York City . First active from 1964 to 1973, their best-known members were Lou Reed and John Cale , who both went on to find success as solo artists. Although experiencing little commercial success while together, the band is often cited by many critics as one of the most important and influential groups of the 1960s. [ 1 ] An often-repeated statement, usually attributed to Brian Eno or Peter Buck , is that "The first Velvet Underground album only sold 10,000 copies, but everyone who bought it formed a band." Sweetheart of the Rodeo is the sixth album by American rock band The Byrds and was released on August 30, 1968 on Columbia Records ( see 1968 in music ). [ 1 ] Recorded with the addition of country-rock pioneer Gram Parsons , it was influential as the first major country-rock album by an established act and represented a stylistic move away from the psychedelic rock of the band's previous LP , The Notorious Byrd Brothers . [ 2 ] [ 3 ] The Byrds had occasionally experimented with country music on their four previous albums, but Sweetheart of the Rodeo represented their fullest immersion into the genre thus far. [ 4 ] [ 5 ] [ 6 ] The album was also responsible for bringing Gram Parsons, who had joined The Byrds prior to the recording of the album, to the attention of a mainstream rock audience for the first time.
