Revolution Doughnuts opens in Decatur and more news

Revolution Doughnuts, a modest shop with its name handwritten on the door, recently opened in Decatur. The owner, Maria Moore Riggs, originally sold baked goods at several of Atlanta’s outdoor markets under the name “Little Red Hen Bakery.” After building a customer base for her baked goods, Riggs decided to open Revolution Doughnuts. She says, “It’s hard to make a living” working at markets that are seasonal and weather dependent. While she had a little money to invest in securing a brick-and-mortar location, Riggs says they needed more. At markets, Riggs sold more than just doughnuts.

Revolution uses organic flour, local dairy and natural flavor extracts. Riggs says her long range plans might include locations in other areas around town, possibly just small walk-ups to get a cup of coffee and a doughnut. 7 a.m. – 4 p.m. In other news: Sweet Dee’s Bakeshop celebrates grand opening tomorrow Former Anthony’s Restaurant becomes event space. Linton Hopkins Says Cheeseburgers Are Not The Enemy

" Since we pressed play and pushed Food Republic live last year, as editor, I've gotten to meet many of the foremost food personalities in the world. I've left few of these meetings as impressed and inspired (and full) as I have after sharing a breakfast pizza and grilled croissant at NYC's Pulino's with Atlanta chef Linton Hopkins. This man is passionate about food, cooking, eating, teaching, helping. He's a grilling god. He's thoroughly Georgian; I even think his name sounds like a character from an R.E.M. song. Besides meeting all these cool chefs in the past year as editor of Food Republic, I've also learned that people don't read long interviews on the Internet, but if you're into food, I implore you to take some time and indulge Linton Hopkins. You’re using fresh ingredients, cooking seasonally and locally.

That is such a huge thing. It’s a big learning curve. That's cool. Meet Frances Quatrano, Manager of Bacchanalia - The Gatekeepers.
