http://dapperscout.com/ If you find that throwing a messenger bag over one shoulder just feels a bit unbalanced, then consider the Duluth Flap Top Backpack (available at Barneys for $235) . Made of an olive cotton canvas cut in a simple rectangular design, the Duluth Flap Top comes with fully adjustable leather flap and shoulder straps as well as polished nickel hardware. And though it may look like the ideal rucksack for a leisurely hike through the woods, the editors at DS find it a much more appropriate means of carrying your stuff through the iron and concrete wilds of whatever urban center you happen to live, work and explore on a daily basis. Before you know it, it’ll be time to put away the boat shoes and pull on a pair of sturdy boots.

http://thechap.net/ The Chap takes a wry look at the modern world through the steamed-up monocle of a more refined age, occasionally getting its sock suspenders into a twist at the unspeakable vulgarity of the twenty-first century. Since 1999, the Chap has been championing the rights of that increasingly marginalised and discredited species of Englishman - the gentleman. The Chap believes that a society without courteous behaviour and proper headwear is a society on the brink of moral and sartorial collapse, and it seeks to reinstate such outmoded but indispensable gestures as hat doffing, giving up one's seat to a lady and regularly using a trouser press.

If there’s one thing that readers of this column know it’s that everything matters; shirts, ties, jackets, trousers, braces, buttons – the lot. As soon as you prioritise something, you realise how important something else is. However, there are two items in the gentleman’s wardrobe that are said to require significant thought, consideration and investment, items which can make or break ensembles with their quality: suits and … [Read more...] http://www.mensflair.com/

For many, this combination of colours and patterns will be too strong for any occasion, no matter how light hearted. But take out one or two elements – such as the tie, or the scarf and handkerchief, and there are important lessons here for everyone. Dandies can lift the look wholesale. Strong patterns need to be set alongside others of a dissimilar scale. So despite the strength of the butcher’s stripe on this shirt, the tie works because its pattern is larger.
http://www.frenchtruckers.com/ My new homeland is a region of seamens. Lorient’s origins goes back to 1666. At that time, the Compagnie des Indes orientales was just founded, 2 years ago actually, and decided the set its headquarters in this freshly created port. Later, in 1688, it was the Marine Royale’s turn to establish there, thanks to Colbert’s son. These marine activitées starded to decline at the beginning of the 19th century while fishing was growing… WW2 highly damaged the city.

Most of us think that Bali is pure bliss - sweltering heat, five and six star resorts, day clubs, beach clubs, sun beds, day beds, mojitos, pina coladas, long tubing waves, reef, sand, sarongs, bikinis and board shorts. There is however, another side to Bali, one which is hard at work whilst you are hard at play. Part of those hard at work are in the rag trade, and of those, a proportion are working at turning you out your shirts and suits within the time frame of which you sojourn in Bali. http://www.lenoeudpapillon.blogspot.com/

Stiff Collar

Tuesday, March 20, 2012 Sure, everyone will notice the socks but what is more subtle and interesting is the very long shirt collar and the “French” placement of the pants pockets. I love the idea of a demure Peter Pan collar blouse with a short black leather skirt…..sweet and a little sinister.
