Adding Auxiliary Input to a Car Stereo. Introduction This document shows how to hack a cheap car stereo with the PT2313L audio processor integrated circuit to be able to accept an auxiliary input, say from an MP3 player. The need for such a hack grew out of my frustration with connecting portable music players to my cheap car stereo with those crappy FM transmitters. Let's face it, they suck. If you're doing any kind of road trip you'll need to change frequencies often because local radio stations drown out the weak power of the transmitter. My original idea was to open the stereo and look for some unused auxiliary input that I could take advantage of. Pictured above is the stereo in question.

Before I go any further, I'll list the tools and parts I used during this operation. Required tools and parts Soldering iron and solder Sufficient tools to remove and open the stereo (screwdrivers, etc.) A stereo earphone jack and cable (I used an old pair of earbud headphones) Here are my old earphones. I've finished the soldering. Conclusion.

Set Up Your Speakers. From Wired How-To Wiki Whether you've got the same cheap system you rocked in college or 10 grand's worth of high-fidelity frivolity, one of the most important factors in how good your audio system sounds is where you put the speakers. Sound can trip over objects, bounce off walls, get lost in a big fluffy couch, or fall to any number of other physical impediments. Poor locations will spoil the sound, while careful placement will bring out the best in your gear. Be prepared to consider and experiment with even the oddest position —- it could be your perfect solution. And make sure to read any documentation that came with your rig.
