I believe that we must be active learners. I am committed to the notion that everybody has something worthwhile to contribute, that all voices must be heard, and that knowledge grows out of thoughtful group interaction. So, I want you to think of this course as a "community of learners. " Which means not thinking of ourselves as isolated individuals, here just to be personally credentialed, and in some way in competition with others. A community is a group of people working together toward a shared goal. In a "community," members actively participate in the task at hand, respect each other, pool their diverse knowledge and skills, carry out their responsibilities in timely fashion, and acknowledge each other's efforts.

And job satisfaction and engagement directly correlate with productivity. So the best and fastest way to more connected and therefore more productive is to receive more social support from others at work, right? Not so fast. Some of the greatest discoveries in psychology occur when we decide to ask questions in a different way. I had already found that social support was incredibly important. We put warning labels on smoking packs; maybe we should put warnings on companies that have low social support. Since social support is crucial if you want to raise your brain’s happiness or productivity, we set out to test the amount of support you feel in your life. So what’s the problem? Eli Pariser: Beware online "filter bubbles". 3 Necessary Conditions for Human Cooperation. Natural surveillance. Natural surveillance is a term used in "Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design" (CPTED) models for crime prevention.
These models rely on the ability to influence offender decisions preceding criminal acts. Research into criminal behavior demonstrates that the decision to offend or not to offend is more influenced by cues to the perceived risk of being caught than by cues to reward or ease of entry. Consistent with this research CPTED based strategies emphasize enhancing the perceived risk of detection and apprehension. Natural surveillance limits the opportunity for crime by taking steps to increase the perception that people can be seen. Natural surveillance occurs by designing the placement of physical features, activities and people in such a way as to maximize visibility and foster positive social interaction. Any architectural design that enhances the chance that a potential offender will be, or might be, seen is a form of natural surveillance. See also[edit]
