So, finding things to do inside is becoming a high priority at our household. Plus, we have a birthday party to prepare for this weekend. As a blogger I always feel a little guilty when I admit we’re having the party somewhere other than our home. Maybe we could make a garland to drape around the lovely kids art studio that’s hosting our little shindig. Ready? See? Bead-dazzle me a Sun-Catcher! | Clever Catastrophe. I came across this really interesting sun-catcher on . I love this site!

I love sharing on it and I love to find nifty little creations that I can do at home myself. As you all I know I love to craft anything I can get my hands on. My first day on Pinterest I thought I was losing my eyesight, I was soooooo addicted to pinning that my eyes were burning. I think I woke up with a Pinterest hangover. So anyhoo, back to my crafting experience. I thought, wow, so pretty! Baked and melty-looking ***NOTE, this does smell a little in the house so if you are bothered by melting plastic smells, I wouldn’t do this in your house.

So once the baked beads cool, flip the pan over and the plastic”cake” falls right out! After baking the first plastic cake, I was hooked. I thought I would make some smaller plastic cakes to hang as little dangles from my big one. Beads in muffin/ cupcake pans So I now have one big sun-catcher, and 6 small ones. Tying fishing line in top and bottom holes outside. You searched for rainsticks - Danya Banya. DIY Rain Sticks - Danya Banya. A tutorial for DIY Rain Sticks (also called Rainsticks and Rain Makers) that you can make with your child. JJ and I had a lot of fun making these Rain Sticks over the weekend. And then once we’d finished making them, we got to play with them. Fun, fun, fun! They can be shaken like a maraca, but for the best effect they are turned slowly onto one end and they make a sound just like rain. Here’s how we made them: Step 1: Gather your supplies We used 2 x cylinders (with lids) from the recycling, some packing tape, a hammer, nails, rice and pasta as fillers and a cheeky toddler or preschooler to help.

Step 2: Give the hammer to the toddler A bit controversial – each parent needs to judge what’s appropriate for their own child. With a (fair) bit of my help, JJ nailed in the nails along the sides of each of the cylinders at random locations. Step 3: Add fillers We used jasmine rice and wholemeal penne pasta – just because that’s what we had in the cupboard at the time. Step 4: Seal the ends Ta Da!! Alphabet art for kids on Pinterest | 1578 Pins. Little Rock Ghost Town. For a year now I’ve wanted to create a handmade Christmas village for my kids. My mom has a store-bought version at their house and Lucy and Owen adore playing with it. And making one from recycled items seemed like the way to go.

The problem I kept running into was was how to create the little people to go with the village. Make them out of clothespins? …until this picture popped up on my instagram (@danamadeit). So we churned a bunch of cardboard and paint together, made a bowl of village ghosts, and with our bats and moon as the backdrop had the perfect Halloween hangout. The idea is self-explanatory. But this wasn’t just a fun project. It was pretty much like carving pumpkins….but even better! When your houses are ready, paint them with whatever you have on-hand. We sprayed the inside of the houses one color, let them dry, taped the windows shut, then sprayed the outside of the houses a different color. And look! And there you go! Now for some spooky inhabitants: ROCK GHOSTS. Little Rock Ghost Town.

Free printable mandala coloring pages. GiddyStuff: August 2010. After watching The Great British Bake Off last week I decided to invest in the series book. I don't know how many cookery books I own, there are too many, but I really felt that I needed one with basic baking skills in it! When you bought a new cooker years ago you used to get a baking book with it! My mum still has her Cannon cookery book, and still uses it! The first surprise about this book is the book underneath the dust jacket, how lovely is that? The photography is lovely, pictures of each recipe and images from around the country. It really is designed to become an heirloom book. There are chapters on biscuits, bread, tarts, pies, cakes, puddings and pastries. Some of the recipes are traditional, some are recipes devised by the contestants taking part in the bake-off.

Breadmaking is thoroughly explained, as are a variety of pastry making techniques. Picasso Portraits - Kindergarten Style! Picasso gives us many great opportunities to teach about abstract art! I like to do this lesson with my Kinders after I teach them the more “traditional” methods of drawing portraits. They really enjoy this chance to “get a little crazy” with their art! (Warning: Get ready to hear some of the FUNNIEST comments from 5 and 6 year olds while doing this project.… My favorite was from a little boy who very seriously said, “Hmmm…This kind of looks like my dad.”)

Elephant Mask « Little Running Teacher. If you’re a preschool teacher, then ELMER by David McKee is one story I think you should know! The story may be a little complicated for toddlers, though it may be simplified. Still, I think it’s one of the cutest stories around! Plus, the follow up activities are always so much fun to do!

After reading this story to the kids, we decided to make some masks and look just like Elmer! My partner found the pattern from the internet, and I suggested to used torn paper of different colors to resemble Elmer. What you will need: Crepe Paper/Japanese PaperGlueMask PatternLong tissue tube/2 short tubesPaintPopsicle sticksColored paper for the elephant’s inner earFolder Step 1: If you have a long tissue tube then great, but if not, tape 2 short tubes together to make a long one and let the kids paint it Step 2: Cut out the mask using a folder Step 3: Let the kids tear some paper and start sticking it on the mask.

Step 4: Help the kids glue on the trunk (tissue tube) and the popsicle sticks. Photo 2 Wood. DIY Paper Feathers. A few weeks ago I was helping my friend create her hat decoration for the Kentucky Derby party we were going to be attending together. We made over-sized paper flowers in bright pinks and plums and added some huge paper feathers into the mix to finish the over-the-top look. They were so pretty I knew I had to create a post for you on making a smaller version of these simple paper feathers. You can use them for gift toppers, a wedding boutonniere, put a few in a shadow box to hang on your wall, or. . . make a paper feather wreath for your summertime decor.

Stay tuned for the wreath post later this week. These feathers are very simple and would make a fun craft project for kids. Simply print my template onto you choice of paper colors or printed papers (I am loving the vintage dictionary page), then follow the directions below to complete. Flapping Paper Butterfly. I had a baby so I’ve invited some fave guests to take over for me while I spend time with the little guy. Today’s post is from super crafter and cute mom, Amelia of The Homebook.

Growing up, I had an aunt who lived in Canada. Every year for my birthday she’d send me a card and a fancy little gift. She always found the neatest things! One year, when I was maybe 10 or 11, she sent me another card—and when I opened it up, a paper butterfly fluttered out of the card. It was magical! I was enchanted. I made my butterflies into Monarchs, but you could use different materials to create any sort of colorful butterfly. Materials: You’ll need heavy cardstock, 24 gauge wire, silicone rubber bands (I found mine in the hair aisle at Walgreens) needle-nose pliers, scissors, tape, a paintbrush, a black marker, and a white ink pen. Step 1: Measure and cut your wire. Step 2: Find the center of the longer wire. Step 5: Find the center of the shorter wire, and wrap it around the base of the paintbrush. 25216dc67a30bdf952a2a785f7816c05. Nature detectives. DIY: Christmas Tree.
