Finlândia: a melhor educação do mundo é 100% estatal, gratuita e universal.

Difícil o Brasil chegar perto do modelo finlandês? Em inglês: Legendas em espanhol: Curtir isso: Curtir Carregando... Are Sugata Mitra's ideas on education doomed to failure? Joe Tibbetts recalls his part in developing the National Curriculum and is depressed by the failure to make education relevant and appropriate. Sugata Mitra is a 61 year old Professor of Educational Technology at the School of Education, Communication and Language Sciences at Newcastle University in the far north east of England. He is a genuine polymath, so described because of the wide range of disciplines and subjects in which he has made telling interventions.

He has won international prizes. He has a PhD in something jolly complicated and is Chief Scientist, Emeritus, at NIIT*. In short Sugata Mitra is an ambulant Brain As Big As A Planet. Mr Mitra asks difficult questions about the ways in which we do education. He’s right of course. Right now, we happen to be in a general period of regression, not just in education.

The other is what's happening to teachers like you.

“Informal learning” outside the classroom is key to clinching a good first job. Critical Pedagogy Reading Group | a democratic book club about democratic education – membership is participation. Occupy the Digital: Critical Pedagogy and New Media | Theory. Teaching is a moral act. Our choice of course content is a moral decision, but so is the relationship we cultivate with students. Both physical and digital learning spaces require us to practice a politics of teaching, whether we’re conscious of it or not. However, traditional relationships between students and teachers come freighted with a model of interaction that often impedes learning. They are hierarchical. Progressive teaching, informed by a critical attention to pedagogy, resets the variables and insists on the classroom as a site of moral agency.

The Brazilian educator Paulo Freire began his experiments in progressive education by teaching peasant farmers to read in 1962. A critical approach to pedagogy is consistent with the goals of a digitally-infused curriculum. Several scholars in critical pedagogy recognize the potential power of networked technology, once viewed as the zone of corporate colonization. The formal discipline of critical pedagogy is political. Henry Giroux: The Necessity of Critical Pedagogy in Dark Times. (Photo: Luca Melette / Flickr)José María Barroso Tristán: You're considered as the father of a critical pedagogy. What is critical pedagogy for you? Henry Giroux: Actually, I am not the father of critical pedagogy. While I may have played a prominent role in its development, critical pedagogy emerged out of long series of educational struggles that extend from the work of Paulo Freire in Brazil to the work on critical pedagogy advanced by myself and Roger Simon, David Livingstone, and later Joe Kincheloe in the 1970s and 1980s.

Critical pedagogy is a movement and an ongoing struggle taking place in a number of different social formations and places. To argue that there is such a thing as “the father of critical pedagogy” devalues those struggles and the collective efforts that have been made to develop and build upon the diverse archives that make up critical pedagogy in all of its different formations. JMBT: Your opinion on an actual teacher´s development is very interesting.

Henry A. Paulo Freire and Critical Pedagogy. Critical pedagogy. Critical pedagogue Ira Shor defines critical pedagogy as: "Habits of thought, reading, writing, and speaking which go beneath surface meaning, first impressions, dominant myths, official pronouncements, traditional clichés, received wisdom, and mere opinions, to understand the deep meaning, root causes, social context, ideology, and personal consequences of any action, event, object, process, organization, experience, text, subject matter, policy, mass media, or discourse. " (Empowering Education, 129) Critical pedagogy includes relationships between teaching and learning. Its proponents claim that it is a continuous process of what they call "unlearning", "learning", and "relearning", "reflection", "evaluation", and the impact that these actions have on the students, in particular students whom they believe have been historically and continue to be disenfranchised by what they call "traditional schooling".

"Critical pedagogy considers how education can provide individuals with the tools to better themselves and strengthen democracy, to create a more egalitarian and just society, and thus to deploy education in a process of progressive social change. Media literacy involves teaching the skills that will empower citizens and students to become sensitive to the politics of representations of race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, class, and other cultural differences in order to foster critical thinking and enhance democratization. Critical media literacy aims to make viewers and readers more critical and discriminating readers and producers of texts.

"Critical media pedagogy provides students and citizens with the tools to analyze critically how texts are constructed and in turn construct and position viewers and readers. It provides tools so that individuals can dissect the instruments of cultural domination, transform themselves from objects to subjects, from passive to active. In January 2005, while working with 20 students in a class titled “Building the New Climate Movement,” I was taken with rock musician Steve Earle's song “The Revolution Starts Now.” It’s a rowdy call to arms that captured the spirit of my students: a revolution was starting, to paraphrase Earle, in their own Middlebury College classroom.

The minds of these young leaders, alight with the specter of runaway climate change and encouraged by me (as I felt my way to a new, “open-source” approach to teaching), came to see their classroom as a laboratory for social change—an amped-up, 21st-century version of the American pragmatist John Dewey's vision for education. During our four weeks together, they studied social movements, worked alongside cutting-edge environmental groups, and organized a conference for 120 environmental and youth leaders. Glossary:International standard classification of education (ISCED) A newer version, ISCED 2011, is available here. At present, however, the data published still refer to periods when only ISCED 97 was used. Levels of education There are seven levels of education in ISCED 97. Level 0: Pre-primary education – the initial stage of organised instruction; it is school- or centre-based and is designed for children aged at least three years.

Level 1: Primary education – begins between five and seven years of age, is the start of compulsory education where it exists and generally covers six years of full-time schooling. Level 2: Lower secondary education – continues the basic programmes of the primary level, although teaching is typically more subject-focused. Usually, the end of this level coincides with the end of compulsory education. Fields of education The ISCED classification comprises 22 fields of education in all (at two-digit level), which can be further refined into the three-digit level. The Sole Of A Student From Plato to Aurobindo, from Vygotsky to Montessori, centuries of educational thinking have vigorously debated a central pedagogical question: How do we spark creativity, curiosity, and wonder in children? But first, a bit of history: to keep the world's military-industrial machine running at the zenith of the British Empire, Victorians assembled an education system to mass-produce workers with identical skills. Like most things designed by the Victorians, it was a robust system. But what got us here, won't get us there. Ideas are not set in stone. Int. Re-Thinking Education: European Commission proposes more old recipes instead of education for social change and citizenship. The European Commission, in an effort to tackle the European crisis and alarmingly high youth unemployment in Europe, launched an initiative to ‘Re-Thinking Education in Europe'.

CONCORD welcomes the initiative of the European Commission but warns that the approach taken by the European Commission will be counter-productive. The current crisis is not an educational crisis as youth unemployment is at levels never seen before while this generation is the most highly educated ever. The crisis is a democratic crisis with people and citizens not being able to call political and economic leaders to order and to work towards a systemic change.

Instead of adapting another generation to a failing system, we should empower them to challenge the system and make it more just. This requires a participatory educational system focusing first and foremost on supporting people to become active citizens.
