Lá todas as crianças tem direito ao mesmo ensino, seja o filho do empresário ou o filho do garçom. Todas as escolas são públicas-estatais, eficientes, profissionalizadas. Todos os professores são servidores públicos, ganham bem e são estimulados e reconhecidos. Nas escolas há serviços de saúde e alimentação, tudo gratuito. Na Finlândia a internet é um direito de todos. A Finlândia se destaca em tecnologia mais do que os Estados Unidos da América. Sim, na Finlândia se paga bastante imposto: 50% do PIB. O país dá um banho nos Estados Unidos da América em matéria de educação e de não corrupção. Na Finlândia se incentiva a colaboração, e não a competição. Mas os neoliberais-gerenciais, privatistas, continuam a citar os EUA como modelo.

CONCORD welcomes the initiative of the European Commission but warns that the approach taken by the European Commission will be counter-productive. The current crisis is not an educational crisis as youth unemployment is at levels never seen before while this generation is the most highly educated ever. The crisis is a democratic crisis with people and citizens not being able to call political and economic leaders to order and to work towards a systemic change.
Instead of adapting another generation to a failing system, we should empower them to challenge the system and make it more just. This requires a participatory educational system focusing first and foremost on supporting people to become active citizens.
