B. K. S. Iyengar. B. K. S. Iyengar, or Bellur Krishnamachar Sundararaja Iyengar (born 14 December 1918), is the founder of Iyengar Yoga and is considered one of the foremost yoga teachers in the world.[1][2] He has written many books on yoga practice and philosophy including Light on Yoga, Light on Pranayama, and Light on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. Iyengar yoga classes are offered throughout the world. Iyengar is one of the earliest students of Tirumalai Krishnamacharya, who is often referred to as "the father of modern yoga.

"[3] After modern yoga had arisen from the teachings of Krishnamacharya, it was Iyengar who established it. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1991, the Padma Bhushan in 2002 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2014.[5][6] In 2004, Iyengar was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time Magazine.[7][8] Early years[edit] Education in yoga[edit] Teaching career[edit] With the encouragement of Krishnamacharya, Iyengar, aged 18,[9] moved to Pune in 1937 to teach yoga. Dr Robin Carhart-Harris is the first scientist in over 40 years to test LSD on humans - and you're next - People - News. Carhart-Harris is the first person in the UK to have legally administered doses of lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) to human volunteers since the Misuse of Drugs Act of 1971, and his presentation climaxes with a slide showing something no one else has seen before: an as-yet unpublished cross-sectional image of the brain of a volunteer who was in an fMRI scanner while tripping on acid.

Blobs of colour indicate changes in blood flow, from which can be inferred changes in levels of activity in specific brain regions – notably, in this case, the hippo-campus, which is involved, among other things, in making memories and giving them context. "We've only looked in six brains so far," says Carhart-Harris when we meet a couple of weeks later in a coffee shop near his flat in Notting Hill. Born in Durham 33 years ago and raised in Bournemouth, he has an indie haircut and looks a bit like he could be the celebrity physicist Brian Cox's cooler younger brother. In the late 1970’s he illustrated JOHN MILTON’S PARADISE LOST. The first edition of Lindall’s work for Paradise Lost was designed to encourage young readers to look into the brilliance and eloquence of Milton’s visionary poetic landscape. The size of Milton’s original work alone has made many hesitate in approaching it, especially since it carried as an entourage the weight of 300 years of difficult and sometimes overbearing scholarly examination. It is actually very beautiful poetry with a fantastic story line interesting even for the 21st century ordinary reader, like J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings.
