When Resa was born at Charity Hospital in New Orleans she had a twin sister. Her mother succumbed to a coma for six months following the birth and her twin disappeared. While the fate of her sister is unknown, it appears she rejoins Resa spiritually, marking the theme of her life as both uniquely challenged and uniquely gifted.

It is not in the least unusually in her life to be visited by an unseen spiritual presence to either warn her of impending tragedy, or to guide and inspire her. While one of Resa's grandparents, Rev. Voodoo hides in plain sight. Music, dance and art are the language of the Voodoo spirits.
