In 1990, DJ Jaycee was added as Roadmanager and backup DJ. A former member, Rooney Roon, was fired following an assault arrest. Beat-boxing legend Rahzel was also involved with the group early in its career. The group's work was associated with unorthodox sampling, polysyllabic rhymes, and bizarre lyrical imagery. History[edit] The Ultramagnetic MC's formed in 1984. The group went on a hiatus for several years, breaking up temporarily in 1990. There were many semi-legitimate and compilation albums to follow, the most official of which was Next Plateau's The B-Sides Companion, which featured a new song, some unreleased 1989 songs recorded for a second Next Plateau LP and most of the group's classic singles, albeit in newly remixed form. Kool Keith. Keith Thornton (born 19 October 1966), better known by his stage name Kool Keith, is an American rapper from The Bronx, New York.

Kool Keith

A founding member of Ultramagnetic MCs, Kool Keith has recorded prolifically both as a solo artist and in group collaborations. Kool Keith is the self-proclaimed inventor of horrorcore,[1] and is generally considered to be one of hip-hop's most eccentric and unusual personalities. History[edit] Kool Keith began his rap career with the group Ultramagnetic MCs. After the release of their influential 1988 album Critical Beatdown, Thornton was reportedly institutionalized in Bellevue Hospital Center.[2][3] However, he later said that the idea that he was institutionalized came from a flippant remark made during a stressful interview, and he never expected the story to become so well known.[4] On October 12, 2004, Real Talk Entertainment issued the album Dr. Lyrical and performance style[edit] Discography[edit] References[edit] External links[edit] De La Soul. With its playful wordplay, innovative sampling, and witty skits, the band's debut album, 3 Feet High and Rising, is considered[who?]

De La Soul

A hip hop masterpiece. It is also the band's biggest commercial success to date, with their subsequent albums selling progressively less, despite receiving high praise from critics. A measure of 3 Feet High and Rising's cross-over appeal was the fact that it was voted Album of the Year by NME, a title better known for its taste in guitar-based music. De La Soul has influenced numerous other hip hop artists such as Camp Lo, The Black Eyed Peas, and Digable Planets.[3] They were also influential in the early stages of rapper/actor Mos Def's career, and are a core part of the Spitkicker collective.

They are the second longest standing Native Tongues Posse group, after the Jungle Brothers. In 2006, the group won a Grammy for their collaboration with Gorillaz on the single "Feel Good Inc History[edit] 3 Feet High and Rising[edit] De La Soul Is Dead[edit]
