I had this problem and, through my inept tinkering, ended up actually completely destroying both of my new 2.8 blogs. Turned out it was a php memory limit set by the service provider and NOT customizable by me. The 8 MB limit my provider gives is not enough to run WP 2.8. I was running only ONE plug-in (Akismet), and I had small databases (less than 2 MB each) but I still couldn't run WP 2.8 on account. I think this is a major bug that the WP development community needs to fix.This guide is another in the Inside WordPress series and will show you how to install a WordPress plugin. While this is a relatively simple task it is one of fundamental importance to WordPress and is often overlooked. As such it is a potential cause of problems to beginners, and not being able to successfully install plugins will prevent you from accessing the very large world of WordPress plugins.

Je me suis lancé dans l’installation de la plate-forme de blog WORDPRESS 3.0 sur un compte FREE Pages Perso. Je connais assez bien cette plate-forme, puisque c’est celle sous laquelle tourne ce site, et j’ai déjà fait pas mal d’installation et de paramétrage auparavant. Je m’attendais à faire une installation en moins de 5mn, comme bien souvent, mais entre la théorie et la pratique, et bien ce n’est pas si simple que ça !.
wordpress est effectivement très simple à installer et à utiliser. le problème viend e chez free qui a configuré les pages persos d'une manière bien spécifique. par exemple le problème très connu des messages d'erreur avec les sessions. il suffit de créer un répertoire "sessions" pour corriger le pb. - dans ton cas c'est aussi très simple. tu dois créer un fichier .htaccess à l racine du site qui contient "php 5" (sans les guillemets). - supprime les table de la base de donnée qui ont été crée pendant la 1ère install - relançe l'install je l'ai installé sur mon compte pour que tu vois http://webdu.free.fr/cms/wordpress et http://webdu.free.fr/cms/wordpress/wp-admin (nom et mot de passe = guest si tu veux tester) <p style="text-align:right;color:#A8A8A8"></p>

J’essaie d’installer WordPress 2.3 sur un compte free. Il s’agit d’une installation et non pas d’une mise à jour.
