May 1, 2012 I will be coming soon to a European city near you (that is, assuming you live near a European city). As of today, my wife, Cynthia, and I am departing on a 2 1/2 month, 20 city, 11 country, lecture tour of Western Europe. I will be speaking to academics, journalists, policy makers, industry insiders, secondary educators, and the general public at various legs of the trip, sharing my ideas about spreadable media, civic media, fan activism, transmedia, new media literacies, fan studies, and comics studies, depending on the audience, both looking backward to some of my recent research projects (including the several books which will be published over the next six months or so) and forward to my new project (especially the work I want to do on comics, media history, and material culture.) Along the way, we will see many of the great cities and monuments of both the modern and classical world, most of them for the very first time. http://henryjenkins.org/index.html

Since the beginning of recorded time, and probably since long before that, the human body has been highly politicized, particularly in the areas of sexuality and reproduction. With the emergence of biotechnology, genetic modification, and the further refinement of psychopharmacology, we can expect further political polarization around the ethical issues these new options will raise. http://bigthink.com/

2 Pennies Worth | Creative Inspiration

http://2penniesworth.com/category/graphic-design/creative/ I can’t remember where I first came across his illustrations, but there was something both charming and disturbing about his style of imagery, his lifework, and his subject matter that I found both intriguing and inspiring.

First, a note: Please don’t try to go through this all at once. There are days and days worth of reading here. http://zenhabits.net/start/
My friend and colleague Bob Sutton wrote an interesting post last week on the topics of good bosses, FUBAR, and SNAFU. Having personally contributed to a few SNAFU situations (honestly, how could you not if you've ever shipped anything real?), and living a large part of my life these days helping others work through situations mired in the muck of FUBAR, I really appreciated his post.

Imagination Now

http://lcinstituteblog.com/ Photo by Iñaki Vinaixa It was once proposed, by someone who liked our work, that it was Lincoln Center Institute ’s (LCI’s) mission to “build bridges between art and life so that children may learn to see the world transformed by the artist’s vision.” Very close, but… There is danger incipient in that statement that the students will only see an artist’s point of view. What’s missing is the students’ contribution in the process; what’s missing is the act of free will. The Fischbowl

Jeff Dachis, Internet consulting legend and founder of Razorfish, coined the phrase “everything that can be digital, will be.” To the extent that the world becomes more digital, it will also become more global. To the extent that the economy remains physical, business may become more local.
March 2012 is a big month for viral ideas that change the way people think about more than just LOLcats. Here are four that happened in the last week or two and each brings its own lessons: Marilyn Hagerty's review of the local Olive Garden was a huge Twitter sensation, an easy target for ironists in search of something to snark about.

Seth's Blog

At the World Summit in Karlstad, Sweden, I was able to share our current work analyzing different approaches to teaching about the news to urban children ages 7 - 11 at this afternoon's research presentation, which was sponsored by NORDICOM, the Nordic Information Center for Media Communication and Research. I developed this project with Media Education Lab colleagues John Landis and Henry Cohn-Geltner. Here's a summary:
