Its color is a bright turquoise blue, mixing the deep indigo of the sixth chakra with the green of the heart. Its lotus has 16 petals, upon which are inscribed all the vowels of the Sanskrit language. Vowels are generally thought to represent spirit, while consonants give the edges and definitions which define matter. This lotus is called Visuddha, which means "purification. " Classically, the element associated with this level is ether, or akasha, meaning "spirit," as well as the element of sound. The Hindus believe that the universe itself is made of sound. Sound waves are subject to a principle called resonance, also known as "rhythm entrainment" or "sympathetic vibration. " Akasha. Meaning in different philosophies[edit] Hinduism[edit] In Hinduism, Akasha means the basis and essence of all things in the material world; the first material element created from the astral world, (Akasha (Ether), Earth,Water,Fire,Air,) in sequence).

Akasha

It is one of the Panchamahabhuta, or "five elements"; its main characteristic is Shabda (sound). In Sanskrit the word means "space", the first element in creation. In Hindi, Marathi and Gujarati, and many other Indian languages, the meaning of Akasha has been accepted as sky.[1] The Nyaya and Vaisheshika schools of Hindu philosophy state that Akasha or aether is the fifth physical substance, which is the substratum of the quality of sound. According to the Samkhya school of Hindu philosophy, Akasha is one of the five Mahābhūtas (grand physical elements) having the specific property of sound.[3] Jainism[edit]

Vishuddha. Vishuddha (Sanskrit: विशुद्ध, IAST: Viśuddha, English: "especially pure"), or Vishuddhi, or throat chakra is the fifth primary chakra according to the Hindu tradition.[1] Description[edit] Location[edit] Vishuddha is positioned at the neck region, near the spine, with its Kshetram or superficial activation point in the pit of the throat.

Vishuddha

Hence, it is also known as the throat chakra.[2] Appearance[edit] Seed Mantra[edit] Petals[edit] Vishuddha has 16 purple petals upon which are written the 16 Sanskrit vowels in golden; NB: Some vowels listed above do not strictly correspond to the grammatical definition of a Sanskrit vowel, specifically ॡ ḹ, अः ḥ, and अं ṃ. The petals correspond to the vrittis of the mantra Ong [Aum], the Sama-mantras, the mantras Hung, Phat, Washat, Swadha, Swaha, and Namak, the nectar Amrita, and the seven musical tones. Function[edit] It is associated with the element Akasha, or Æther, and the sense of hearing, as well as the action of speaking. Lalana chakra[edit]
