Spending the younger days of my life in an incredibly small town, it’s a wonder that I could be exposed to even a tenth of the albums included on this list. Let’s just say that the music I listened to then… well, let’s just not say. It wasn’t until a year or two before I graduated high school in ‘01 that I began to familiarize myself with music outside of the radio world. Before I drag on and get entirely too nostalgic… it just seems fitting that our first list of an entire decade happens to be one where I started to explore music from it’s beginning. The three of us (Nate, Jordan, and Ryan) joined forces, created our own lists, and then duked it out to whittle things down to fifty.Released on July 24 th , 2012, Shrines is the debut album by Purity Ring, a Halifax/Montreal-based duo comprised of Corin Roddick and Megan James. Purity Ring make lullabies for the club, drawing equally from airy 90s R&B, lush dream pop, and the powerful, bone-rattling immediacy of modern hip hop. Megan’s remarkable voice is at once ecstatic and ethereal, soaring joyfully through Corin’s carefully chopped beats, trembling synths, and skewed vocal samples.

20 ans déjà que les années 80 s'en vont et puis reviennent. Que les marathoniens de la décennie poursuivent sans relâche leur never ending tour scénique, assurant tant bien que mal la survivance d'une discographie digne (Depeche Mode), erratique (New Order) ou franchement dispensable (The Cure). 20 ans également que justice est rendue à quelques héros ignorés en leur temps, à coup de reformations pécuniaires ou non, des Pixies aux Feelies. 20 ans enfin que certains vivent dans le culte de groupes disparus à jamais, vestiges d'un temps fantasmé, The Smiths en tête. Et il y a ceux dont on parle peu. Ceux qui n'ont pas eu le mérite de disparaître.

7Fingers est l’œuvre des allemands Nils Frahm (pianiste/électronicien) et Anne Müller (violoncelliste/concertiste). Deux habitués de la scène modern classical. Frahm a déjà produit en solo deux albums remarqués ( The Bell et Wintermusic ), et a collaboré notamment avec le petit géni Peter Broderick . Anne Müller de son côté fait partie du Wolf-Ferrari-Ensemble, un orchestre de cordes basé à Berlin depuis une dizaine d’années.

And no, you're not seeing double. The doppelganger drummers are myself and Clive Deamer. Clive has long been one of my favourite drummers and so I was really excited when he agreed to perform with us.
