Carte 3D Noël: pop-up sapin à imprimer, découper, décorer…

Carte 3D Noël: pop-up sapin à imprimer, découper, décorer…

In 1912 the city of Tokyo, Japan, gave Washington, D.C., a beautiful gift of 3,000 cherry blossom trees. This year celebrates the 100th anniversary of that gift. I've got to go, my monkey needs me! Hands up everyone who thinks Captain Mack is hot.

I've got to go, my monkey needs me!

And yes, I'm really going to miss him now that TV6 is gone, sort of like I missed Steve when he left Blues Clues... Us mums have to cling to something to retain our sanity while watching kid's tv don't we? Anyways, all of that is a digression from the REAL monkey topic here, decent photos of Mabel and Brian monkey. The pattern is from the Softies book, and is for a girl monkey named Mabel. But I really felt that there had to be a boy monkey too, so he's called Brian. Unlike the Maisie doll from the same book, I loved making these little guys a lot and am really pleased with the results.

I thought I'd like to add pink cheeks to Mabel (Mat said Brian didn't need that kind of carry-on) but had no idea how to do it short of pfaffing around with fabric paints which seemed a recipe for disaster. Mini Jello Aquariums. So today is the day where we talk about my baby Jon David starting first grade this morning and I cry and you give me lots of hugs and candy.

Or money. That would probably help a little. For some crazy reason, I thought Kindergarten would be the worst. I mean, I stayed home with my son for 6 years. And when you are with someone all day every day, it’s more like dog years. Five pillow cases sewn together, insert pillows. Shower curtain village play mat. I taped out the shower curtain onto the kitchen floor with some packing tape and then set about drawing on it with a black magic marker.

The kids were right there while I was setting this up, so the drawing of the village layout was done whilst they were all giving input on what buildings we needed and where and i didn't have the time to look for and print out the cool photos and logos that were used in the original shower curtain play mat I saw. I taped two sharpies to opposite sides of an old juice bottle, so I could use the contraption to quickly draw roads that were an even width. by the time I'd drawn half the village, the kids had already started colouring it, so we kind of worked together and around each other with some kids colouring and some telling me what i needed to draw next on the map.

They’re ideal for preschool classrooms or as boredom busters for kids at home. In a previous column (www.frugalvillage.com/2011/02/14/make-craft-recipes-for-kids/), I shared recipes for chalk and mock silly putty, and readers requested more. While some craft recipes aren’t cheaper than their retail counterparts, it’s still a lot of fun and educational for kids to create and explore. Mix 9 cups extra fine, colored play sand.
