Division for the Advancement of Women-DAW

In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. In doing so, UN Member States took an historic step in accelerating the Organization’s goals on gender equality and the empowerment of women. From wikigender.org The Gender Equity Index (GEI) was introduced by the Social Watch in 2004 to measure inequities in different areas of women's and men's everyday lives around the world. The journal aims to raise awareness and spark debate among a variety of audiences about the importance of women's participation in development and reconstruction, and to discuss the unique contributions that women can make to these processes.
