Formazione — 120g. Haus Hohlen / Jochen Specht (573650) Raumlabor. FOUNTAIN HOUSE . Montreal Raumlabor Reexamining the fountain: In contemporary urban as well as cultural discussions we see a renaissance of the idea of common space, in german either translated as „Allmende“ or „Gemeinschaft“ depending on a relationship towards (city) space or social structures. This is related to the dipole of the private vs. the public as the two dominant categories of the 20th century. Now in the 21st century we find many ways of being together as part of daily life, be it through social media or through community gardens or similar locally rooted projects.

Sommerhaus in Linescio | DETAIL Inspiration.

Projektdetails. Sam Jacob On The “Post-Digital Phase” In an interview with Core77 Sam Jacob, formerly of FAT and now principal at Sam Jacob Studio, has “always pursued an idea of design practice as a combination of criticism, research and speculation that all feed directly into the design studio.” This approach has allowed his ideas to “cross-fertilize, find connections and directions that make the practice stronger, more agile and able to respond intelligently to the problem at hand.” Jacob, who is also a Visiting Professor at Yale and the University of Illinois at Chicago whilst simultaneously director of the Night School at London’s Architectural Association, recently saw one of FAT’s final projects to completion: the curation of the British Pavilion (alongside Dutch architect and academic Wouter Vanstiphout).

In the UK, former partner Charles Holland is bringing a collaborative project with artist Grayson Perry to completion in Essex. Read more and see some of Jacob’s drawings after the break. Architects: NORM Architects Location: Copenhagen, Denmark Area: 240.0 sqm Year: 2010 Photographs: Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen From the architect. On a sloping property north of Copenhagen, the “Fredensborg House” is built on five small plateaus connected by steps, reflecting the shape of its surrounding terrain. The house aesthetic is derived from inspirations brought about by the labyrinthine mountain village architecture, those that you may find familiar in Southern Europe, the architecture of Chinese temples, and in the works of modernist Danish architecture Jørn Utzon. The many yellow tile roofs of the Fredensborg House rhythmically overlaps each other – resonating the movements of the slopes in design. The roofs color palette consists of four different yellow and brownish tones in a mix, to achieve a natural imperfection.

The property does not reveal its large size at first glance. The lowest plateau of the house contains the dining area and a small washroom. CASA SOL / atelier data. A simply cut monolith in washed concrete, which is docked directly to the road, rises from the natural topography of the slope. Two cars are parked almost directly on the roof. An entrance courtyard is located directly behind the wooden entrance gate.

The entrance door and the glass front to the court can completely be shift into the wall, so that the outside and the interior space flows together in the summertime. The inside participates to the court, like the court participates to the landscape, offering spectacular views. Bottle Sail / 1+1>2 International Architecture JSC. In the series of community development projects by 1+1>2 International Architecture JSC, in collaboration with research centers and public health development COHED, the bottle seedling house has been built given to rural communities affected by HIV / AIDS. The project aims to improve the quality of agricultural, community connections, helping people with HIV / AIDS to socially reintegrate. The land is located next to the sea dyke, with an average of 12 typhoons each year; this is a big challenge when building. So, the bottle house should be designed to respond to natural disasters, protecting seedlings.

As the young professional urbanite decided to move back to her hometown to take up the family agricultural legacy, she asked for a space for grooming, contemplation and delicacy. (Located on a remote agricultural estate in southern Mallorca, this structure was the realisation of her dream.)

The project focuses on the ritual of self-cleansing, both mental and corporal. The ceremonial procedure begins with the ritual of the equestrian arrival. Sited at the center of a barley field surrounded by autochthonous bushes and wild olive trees, the structure grants a panoramic view meeting the Mediterranean sea and senses at the horizon the lush island of Cabrera.

This Project starts with the acknowledgment of a conceptual challenge which structures the idea that generates the proposal: Which characteristics could an overlook have to be attractive even when all its natural surroundings offer interesting (and similar) views? This is due to the fact that the project is located in the top edge of the crater of an active volcano that has a lake inside of it, which creates multiple viewing opportunities along its surroundings. Wood warmth The project is located in a small village in La Cerdanya. Located on the north valley side and facing south, the dense rural core is formed by about 20 houses, is surrounded by fields and meadows where agriculture and farming are the main activities. Breathtaking views of the Cadi in front make this setting, a natural paradise. Most buildings in the village are formed around an era. One group of constructions formed by a haystack, a barn, a warehouse, a small house and badiu belonged to our client who wanted to rehabilitate the space set and make his home and several guest pavilions.

We keep the volumes of the existing buildings, rehabilitating their facades and roofs and redistributing all interior spaces. Woven Sky: A Bamboo Tunnel Installation Woven Together Like a Basket by Wang Wen-Chih. All images courtesy Cave Urban Using 600 poles of bamboo and 70 radiata pine logs all harvested locally, Taiwanese Artist Wang Wen-Chih created a massive installation that served as the entrance to the Woodford Folk Festival in Australia.

Working with the Sydney-based architecture and design collective Cave Urban, a team of 40 workers and volunteers spent 3 weeks building the structure. Each bamboo pole was split into 4-5 pieces and weaved together like a basket. Woven Sky, which rises 15m high and is 100m long, was completed late last year, just in time for the music festival, and served an impressive entrance point into the amphitheater stage. HOUSE G by maxwan. The architects of studio maxwan renovated an old barn on a beautiful site bordering the river Linge. At their first visit they found the house difficult to inhabit. Most strikingly, virtually no relation existed to the beautiful landscape surrounding the house. All façade openings were too small, in the wrong place, or both. So the architects proposed to invert the layout of the house, moving the offices and storage space to occupy the recent extension and the private spaces to the old barn.

A large slit was cut into the barn roof to bring in light. All images © Filip Dujardin. 9 Of The World's Most Inventive Tiny Buildings. Most people tend to describe their dream houses as sprawling and palatial--but maybe that’s because they haven’t yet seen the gorgeous and inventive nooks featured in Small Architecture Now!. The structures shown here push the potential of the square foot to its limits, revealing that some of the world’s most beautifully designed spaces are also the smallest ones.

Indeed, many of today’s top architects, from Frank Gehry to Tadao Ando, started their careers designing very small homes, as author Philip Jodidio points out. The tiny dwellings in this book give hope to those of us living in urban shoeboxes--as 70% of the world’s population will be urban by 2050, urban architects can't afford to waste an inch of space. From a hut on sleds to a walk-in fireplace for kindergarteners, here are 10 structures that prove that when it comes to architecture, bigger is not always better.
