The Library of Congress presents the National Jukebox, which makes historical sound recordings available to the public free of charge. The Jukebox includes recordings from the extraordinary collections of the Library of Congress Packard Campus for Audio Visual Conservation and other contributing libraries and archives. Here is an eclectic mix of a dozen selections from the National Jukebox’s vast array of Victor records. It features ragtime, opera, Hawaiian music, a New York-dialect specialty, and two African American recording pioneers, the Dinwiddie Colored Quartet and comedian Bert Williams.

Well, half of the '90s hip-hop duo, that is. Today (March 27th), Gift of Gab (aka Gabby T) is to release his 3rd solo album, 'The Next Logical Progression'. The sound is deliciously old school and features a rich funk montage. Piano loops abound, as do a Motown chorus, the occasional record scratch and even a spaceship-like pew-pew every now and then.

Flares of deeply melodic textures swim in and out of a nice jangly forefront. It's like a happily impatient driver swerving between cars, lane to lane in the heat of rush hour, and every once in a while, the car escapes the temporary madness and coasts the open road, enjoying the wind and embracing the scenery. The band is Bikos, and they are creating some cool music. Male and female vocals proclaim quite a few of the same emphases, resulting in a sound that resembles a hyped up Broken Social Scene with a vibrant twist of Devotchka-like power. Each song has it's own glow, with the instruments rocking throughout.
