Metadata Authority Description Schema (MADS) - (Library of Congress)

http://www.loc.gov/standards/mads/ The Metadata Authority Description Schema (MADS) is an XML schema for an authority element set that may be used to provide metadata about agents (people, organizations), events, and terms (topics, geographics, genres, etc.). MADS serves as a companion to the Metadata Object Description Schema (MODS) to provide metadata about the authoritative entities used in MODS descriptions. The standard is maintained by the MODS/MADS Editorial Committee with the Network Development and MARC Standards Office of the Library of Congress and input from users.

SKOS Simple Knowledge Organization System Primer

SKOS—Simple Knowledge Organization System—provides a model for expressing the basic structure and content of concept schemes such as thesauri, classification schemes, subject heading lists, taxonomies, folksonomies, and other similar types of controlled vocabulary. As an application of the Resource Description Framework (RDF) , SKOS allows concepts to be composed and published on the World Wide Web, linked with data on the Web and integrated into other concept schemes. This document is a user guide for those who would like to represent their concept scheme using SKOS.

Zthes - The Zthes specifications for thesaurus representation, access and navigation

The Zthes family of specifications facilitate interoperability for applications that deal with thesauri - semantic hierarchies of terms as described in ISO 2788 and ANSI/NISO Z39.19. Because the Zthes specification work was done largely in the UK, ``Zthes'' is pronounced ``Zed-thezz''. However, ``Zee-thezz'' is an acceptable variant. There is a low-volume Zthes mailing list, free to join, for discussion of these specifications and their applications. http://zthes.z3950.org/

XML Topic Maps (XTM) 1.0.

ISO 25964 Thesaurus Schemas - National Information Standards Organization

http://www.niso.org/schemas/iso25964 This is an international standard development project of ISO Technical Committee 46 (Information and documentation) Subcommittee 9 (Identification and description). The assigned Working Group (known as ISO TC46/SC9/WG8) is revising, merging, and extending two existing international standards: ISO 2788 and ISO 5964. The end product is a new standard—ISO 25964, Information and documentation – Thesauri and interoperability with other vocabularies —supporting the development and application of thesauri in today’s expanding context of networking opportunities. It is being published in two parts, as follows: Part 2 of the standard addresses thesaurus interoperability, especially the principles and many practical examples of mapping between vocabularies.

UMBEL Web Services (hosted by Structured Dynamics)

UMBEL Web services are supported by the structWSF Web services framework. The latest version of the UMBEL ontology has been indexed by the structWSF instance, and gets exposed to the generic public through these services. This structWSF-UMBEL instance is made public for testing purposes only. If you want to develop commercial applications around it, you will have to install structWSF and import UMBEL into your own instance since the performances and the up-time of this demo instance is not guaranteed. Here is the summary information you need to know in order to be able to query the latest version of the UMBEL ontology using the structWSF Web services endpoints.
While most aspects of Subj3ct don't require you to sign in, creating an account will improve the trust that other users have in the identifiers you register. Subj3ct allows users to register identifier feeds. Each feed can contain as many identifiers, for as many different subjects as you want. The feed registration process is simple to use and feeds are easy to build. Use Subj3ct to find identifiers for tagging content or for use in your Web 3.0 application. Our search results also tell you about other identifiers for the same subject and where you can find more information about a subject.
