My Mill - Academy of Lagado. My Mill - A LittleMachineShop Model 3900 HiTorque Mini Mill [April 9, 2013][April 13, 2013][April 22, 2013] I purchased my mill used in 2012. As purchased, the mill had DROs (digital read-outs) already installed for the X,Y, and Z axes, as well as a spindle stop. The photo to the left shows the mill (with way covers in place) in my small basement workshop. The purchase also included a sturdy metal stand on casters, a small mill vise, a set of collets, the tools that come with the mill when purchased new, and a LED lamp (which I have since replaced with two LED lamps). Below are two more views of the mill. The photos below show the nameplate for the mill, with model number and specifications. Photo 1 - Chris and his friend put together this unit; laser cutting the parts out of half inch acrylic. Not only does it look super it must weigh a ton. But kudos, anyone who's worked with acrylic knows laser cutting it is great but it is a very very unfriendly material to drill and there is a lot of side drilling in this design. Photo 2 - Sam McCaskill has finished his desktop CNC machine and it's looking really really nice. Photo 3 - Angry Monk's - With MDF pieces cut on a laser cutter and drive converted from toothed belts to threaded rod. CNC Projects. 4th Axis Ideas. I decided to stay with my 495 holding torque stepper motor and timing pulley ratio and add the Taig lathe chuck to fit the 3/4" ER32 collet. This way I can remove the Chuck and use the ER32 collets. The pictures will show the Newer 4th axis setup. The ER32 fit the 3/4" ID bearings, just a nice slip fit. Added a spring loaded block to clamp the ER32 for the wrench. Also added a chip/swarf plastic cover. Motor fits in a milled pocket Small Ball Bearing added for Backlash takeout.
May add another bearing below. I seen this gearbox used a while back. 4th Axis with 495 oz-in holding power stepper motor, 30T Timing Pulley and 15T Motor pulley. With Bearing Preload adjustment. Note: Shaft inprovement, would be to machine the Shaft with 3/4-16 NF threads on both ends. These bearings are 3/4" Timken wheel axle bearings.
