Penny Countertop. Last September we finished our butcher block countertops, but we didn’t do our bar area.

Penny Countertop

I mentioned in that post that I was open to suggestions and got the great idea to cover it in pennies and epoxy. Well, EIGHT months later it is finally finished! I started in December when I got the supplies for Christmas… then it was one of my No Spend February goals…then it was one of my projects for the contest over at Every Creative Endeavor….then we finally finished it in April and I put off blogging about it because I didn’t want to write the post. And that brings us to now. This is one of those projects that if I was to do it again it would be super easy. However, if any of y’all want to make a penny countertop, then you are going to LOVE me for saving you a headache. First we de-laminated the contertop to make it easy to get to the nails to remove it… except that there was NO WAY that sucker was coming off. Next we had to figure out how we wanted our pennies. So whats the best way? Desktop with rugged wheels as coffee table. Succulent Table. Matti's Succulent Table Mission DIY succulent table complete.

Succulent Table

I’ve wanted to make this baby for months. It’s a dissected old shipping crate and some other random scraps of wood lying around the house turned into a patio side table with a planting strip down the middle. Old shipping crate deconstructed. The next couple of pics show a bit of the process. Center planting box layed out. The outside walls were about the same shape as I wanted the table, and I started to build everything around that size. Table tops getting set in. Randomly walking around looking at gardens in the hood, I spotted a big pile of old scrap lumber. Fastening it together. I really tried to screw everything in so that the screws were hidden from sight.

Matti's test of strength. Industrial Outdoor Coffee Table. We had been wanting to replace our glass outdoor table with something smaller, more relaxed and possibly more intimate.

So we figured a coffee table would be nice to sit around the chiminea with. Visiting a recycling center, we came across some rusty, old, steel trolleys for $10 and thought they'd make a great base. I found a small pallet of what the guy referred to as "hardwood" at a salvage yard for $50. Plumbing Pipes Desk. A friend of ours told recently us about the furniture that the folks at the graphic design studio, Oat, made for their studio in Somerville.

We loved the idea, and when we went to check it out we had a great time visiting and hearing how they made it. Rory, Oat's founder, took plumbing pipes and joined them, making creative desks and a simple coffee table that wouldn't be too hard to customize yourself. More details and photos after the jump Rory connected inexpensive black pipes from Home Depot in an simply designed desk and coffee table. We loved the thin-diameter pipes he used which made the pieces look elegant, and their well thought-out design.

Oat is a talented, small graphic design studio whose clients include Wagamama, Porches Inn, Harvard Graduate School of Design and MTV. Rory said that the approximate cost of the desk with all of the fittings and pipe was less than $80. Anthropologie Inspired Coffee Table. It might have taken awhile, I might have run into a few road bumps along the way, and some poople may think I am slightly crazy for taking this on but my coffee table is finally finished! It all started while browsing Anthropologie and Viva Terra online (this was so long ago they are not even on the website anymore! All I could find was the console table that went with the set) and lusting after the fabulous furniture they have.

I love the look and style but the price is always out of my reach. Keyboard Bar. When Liz and I first bought our house, it included a wonderfully horrid attempt at a wet bar in the basement. I’m sure that who ever built it thought it was beautiful (much like how all parents think their babies are beautiful). It had some absolutely stunning bead board from the local home center plastered across the front, and some sort of laminate applied to the plywood top. They had gone to the effort of putting in drywall on the back side, and an itty bitty sink. The sink isn’t terrible, at least functional, but on the smallish side. Somewhere along the line Jim (dear old best friend Jim, who has probably encouraged more than a few irrational ideas) and I thought that we could do better. With an epic black 2×4 frame, more wood was applied.

But this left us with a quandary, this epic, dark, black bar needed an appropriately epic top to match it. We could put things in the top. Our minds raced with the possibilities, dominoes were cool, but already done. Worldly Sofa Table from Old Sideboard. I've spent dribs of the last few weekends working on that vintage sideboard I bought to use as a sofa table and I'm finally ready to reveal what I did with it.

There was a lot of major damage to the top of it so I sanded that down to the bare wood. The rest of the piece got a light sand - just enough to give the paint something to grip. Then I washed it all down with a mix of water and TSP (a degreaser). Ply Coffee Table. Whilst the construction of slicing up plywood and re-gluing to see the 'ply' is now nothing new.

A few years back whilst I was in University, it was something rather different, with only a handful of products visible after a quick browse on 'Google'. Whilst I appreciate not everyone has access to both the machinary used within in this Instructable, but more importantly - the amount of time to invest in such a piece of furniture, I, at the time, was a penny scrounging university design student... Prepping involved...tightening the bolts with a wrench. Quickly sanding the wood with my orbital sander to remove any dirt, etc and make sure there are no sharp edges. Ten Green Coffee Table - from reclaimed timber and glass bottles. For one table you will need: Four hook and eye strainers / turnbuckles as they are sometimes called.

I used the smallest I could find, which are 14mm OD at the buckle and 5mm OD at the threads. Such as these from Screwfix . Four screw eyes and four screw hooks, of a gauge to match the turnbuckles. Depending on the height of your bottles, you may need some ess hooks too to help the strainer reach between the upper and lower hooks. Two pieces of reclaimed wood at least 25mm thick. Drill four holes and attach the hardware as described in the layout image (also in .pdf and sketchup format).

NOTE: Andrea Biffi rightly points out that for stability is better that tensioners/turnbuckles are oblique (meaning, not vertical, they are meant to sit at an angle), as you can see in the attached drawings. UPDATE 28/01/11: I have added some proper engineering drawings in .pdf format below. NES controller coffee table. Farmhouse Side Table. Farmhouse Side Table As I progress with my woodworking, I decided to tackle this project next. Here is the plan I followed almost to a T, Ana White's Farmhouse Bedside table.

Its rustic, but its also elegant. Definately my style. Here's what I did: After carefully looking at the project plan, I gathered my lumber. The project plan is mostly 2x2's and 1x2's and some 1x6's laid side by side for the top. Let's Table That. Sometimes, when two people love each other very much, they take that love and turn it into a coffee table. It all started on Saturday as I was drooling over this table I saw over at The Blissful Bee: Build a 20 Sec Tidy Up Coffee Table. This is why I love DIY. You can find inspiration from anywhere. Industrial TV Stand. Lap Desk. Ikea Lack Plus (Lighted Table) Everyone knows that table because it's the Ikea's philosophy essence for an extremly low price.

Built from nothing more than 4 screws, air and wood fibers can withstand a lot considering how flimsy this material is. Here's how it's made: What is the most striking flaw though, is the surface that wears out quickly. Union Jack Coffee Table {With A Twist} You know what’s really fun?
