Life in a Glass Bubble: Modern Spanish Penthouse Remodel. Apr 06 In the southern Spanish city of Murcia, ancient buildings line the streets and add a particular type of character to the locale. One home in particular embraces the centuries-old charm on the street level but goes for the futuristic look up top. Clavel Arquitectos were called in to rehab an existing attic and turn it into a stylish penthouse-style art gallery/living space addition. But what would a project like this be without some strict regulations or unusual challenges to get around? The building was under strict regulations that made it impossible to modify the positions of the attic’s exterior walls.

Working only within the space already defined, the architects designed a futuristic, open structure with a lush exterior green wall. The existing penthouse was dark and closed off with narrow corridors and rooms on both sides. Each “bubble” is a separate chamber with a specific function – living, sleeping, dining – and the space between them keeps things light. Via dornob.com. FreeForm Solar Powered | Blogs. This impressive two story contemporary home is located in Johannesburg, South Africa. Glass House by Nico Van Der Meulen Architects: “The house is situated on a 4000 sq.m site, with a total floor area of 2500sq.m. The owner requested a modern, glamorous, open plan, light-filled house with views from all rooms into the garden. The shape on the south side is a half circle, forming a horseshoe on the north side. The porte cochere is a suspended glass and stainless steel structure, with view into the house and a stainless steel and glass staircase, suspended over a heated pond, (which in summer acts as a temperature stabilizer, and in winter as a giant heater) with a circular, raised glass water feature in the background, framed by a beam two storeys high.

Here is the agent’s description of the property: “This “one-of-a-kind” architectural masterpiece in La Jolla, California, is a unique trophy property designed by one of Architectural Digest’s Top 100 Designers. Wohnhaus Am Walensee by K_M Architektur: “The location alone of this single family home in Unterterzen, with a clear view of lake Walensse and the mountains of Churfirsten is spectacular. The property which is located on the slope of a green meadow offered the conditions to realize the floating design which captivates through its clear form and the use of natural materials using concrete, glass and wood as structural material. A loggia encircles the building on the water side, fulfills an open living space and creates a flowing transition between interior and exterior with a fantastic panoramic view.

Rooftop photovoltaic panels and a stove in the living room produce most of the energy for the home.” Photos courtesy of: K_M Architektur. Stunning Coastal Home For Sale in South Sweden. Moebius House by Tony Owen Partners. Australian architects Tony Owen Partners have created a house overlooking Sydney harbor where one wall loops over the roof and down the other side to become a first floor terrace. Called Moebius House, the building has a steel frame clad in metal panels.

Here is some more information from the architects: Moebius House This family house faces onto views of the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge. The house explores the maximisation of light, space, ventilation and views on a tight sight. Micro design utilises parametric modelling software which can respond to very small changes to design input criteria. The unique form is a response to the requirements to maintain view and solar corridors. We created a dynamic model capable of responding to changes in these variables and allowed the models to run in real time. The house has a fluidity of space which is a direct result of having a strong relationship with the surrounding landscape.
