L’année dernière pour relancer l’activité touristique du pays l’office de tourisme d’Islande “InspiredbyIceland” a lancé une opération de séduction en proposant aux habitants d’inviter chez eux des touristes du monde entier pour leur faire découvrir l’Islande autrement, au travers de leurs métiers, leurs passions, leur savoir-faire… Le président Islandais et le maire de Reykjavik ont également répondu présent. Haut de 1 491 mètres, l'Hekla, situé à 110 kilomètres à l'est de la capitale islandaise, Reykjavik, dans le sud de l'île, a été jadis surnommé par les Islandais "la Porte de l'enfer", et est entré en éruption une vingtaine de fois au cours des mille dernières années et en moyenne une fois tous les dix ans ces soixante dernières années. La dernière remonte à 2000, et son réveil est donc attendu incessamment. "On est en 2011 et il nous montre tous les symptômes pré-éruptifs : le gonflement, la dilatation de l'édifice, le magma est là" , résume le vulcanologue français Patrick Allard , de l'Institut de physique du Globe.
