Ammut is the personification of divine retribution. She sits beside the scales of Ma'at ready to devour the souls of those deemed unworthy. Those unfortunate enough to fail the test would suffer the feared second death, and have no chance of the blissfull life of the field of reeds instead roaming restlessly for eternity. Her name, is generally translated as "Devourer", but could also be the chilling "Bone Eater", and she was known as "Devourer of millions" leading to the suggestion that the god Am-heh was one of her aspects.

Some scholars have linked Ammit with the Hippopotamus goddess Tawaret, because of the similarities in their appearance and their role in fighting evil. Ammit was never worshipped, and was not strictly a goddess, but her image was thought to ward off evil. This shrine is monitored. Khonsu Shrine At nshrine. Heru Shrine At nshrine. Maat Shrine At nshrine. Ma'at, Goddess of Truth, Balance, Order, she is most often depicted as a woman with wings, or with her symbol – a single white ostrich feather. It is against that single white ostrich feather that the heart of the deceased is weighed when we die. In the Hall of Judgement, Ma-at holds the scales, and if the heart weighs less than a feather, the deceased goes on to the afterlife.

If they have not followed the concept of Maat (if he had lied, cheated or killed) and heart weighs more than a feather, the heart is devoured by Ammut and the soul destroyed. Ma'at in antiquity was patroness of judges, magistrates and all court officials; the phrase "priest of Ma'at" in inscriptions can be understood as a euphemism for "judge. " Tara Shrine At nshrine. "Guardian of the Scales" Inpu, ancient Egyptian for "Anubis", the jackal-headed God associated with Mummification and the Afterlife; Protector of the dead for their journey into the Afterlife. He was usually portrayed as a half human, half jackal, or in full jackal form wearing a ribbon and holding a flail in the crook of its arm. The jackal was strongly associated with cemeteries in ancient Egypt, since it was a scavenger which threatened to uncover human bodies and eat their flesh. The distinctive black color of Anubis "did not have to do with the jackal [per se] but with the color of rotting flesh and with the black soil of the Nile valley, symbolizing rebirth. " The critical weighing of the heart scene in Book of the Dead also depicts Anubis performing the measurement that determined the worthiness of the deceased to enter the realm of the dead (the underworld).

Ma'at (or Mayet) was the goddess of the physical and moral law of Egypt, of order and truth. She said to be the wife of Thoth and had eight children with him. The most important of her children was Amon. These eight were the chief gods of Hermopolis and according to the priests there, they created the earth and all that is in it.

Ma'at is depicted in the form of a woman seated or standing. She holds the sceptre in one hand and the ankh in the other. A symbol of Ma'at was the ostrich feather and she is always shown wearing it in her hair. In some pictures she has a pair of wings attached to her arms. Another symbol of Ma'at is the primeval mound () upon which the creator god stood at the beginning of time. When the dead were judged, it is was the feather of Ma'at that their hearts were weighed against. The last role of Ma'at was to help guide the Sun-god Re as he made his journey across the skies.
