(Photo by Ian Gavan Source: Getty Images BRITISH singer Amy Winehouse has been found dead at her north London flat at the age of 27, according to the London Metropolitan Police The Back To Black singer was found at the property by emergency services at 3.54pm London time, and it's believed Winehouse's death was due to a suspected drug overdose. Winehouse was apparently 'beyond help' when paramedics arrived, according to Sky sources.

Sources have also claimed Winehouse's death was due to a drug overdose. I quickly went online to see if the rumor was true and couldn’t find anything. For several minutes, there was nothing reported, so I thought it was another of those Twitter fake death rumors. Then Huffington Post released an update reporting her death, and then all the news outlets began to follow their lead. Surprisingly, CNN was slow to pick up the story, probably because they were so engaged in the whole Norway tragedy..quite understandably. And then the horrible tweets started to appear. I have just returned from London, where I toured the London Museum of Jewish Life. “Back to Black” is an incredible album. Back to those horrible tweets. So, please have compassion.

Without Amy, there would have been no Adele, no Duffy and no Lady Gaga. She may have been an alumni of the Brit School, but Winehouse was also a British great. In an era of manufactured stars and precision-tooled pop puppets, she was the real deal. Tragic loss: Amy Winehouse was a talented and much-loved singer and performer Her talent was obvious from the off. I was lucky enough to interview her twice. Full of joy: Amy performing at the start of her career back in 2004 She was full of the joys of life and understandably excited about her future.
