I so appreciate your words of support while I manage this transition. Four plain rectangles can be sewn together to make a perfectly serviceable covering for your upper body and arms. Most of us, however, prefer our garments to bear some relationship to the shape of the body underneath. Producing such garments requires a working understanding of increases and decreases. Twist Collective Fall 2013. Tiny owl knits. The Purl Bee. For this Kid's Fair Isle Vest I used a technique credited to a tiny island north of Scotland (aka Fair Isle) and a stitch pattern from another tiny island, this one west of Estonia (Muhu).

The Purl Bee

In times and places where, by logic, function should have ruled sweater design, instead, knitters seemed to have taken sheer joy in form. It seems to me that, when they cast on for a new sweater, the women from these cold, isolated island places threw all of life's hardships and frustrations right out the window. The last couple of days have been the perfect autumn kind - misty mornings with dew festooned cobwebs... ...dissolving into warm days of sunshine that sparkles through the rich colours of the leaves. I'm so glad to live somewhere that has four distinct seasons, each one bringing changes in what we eat, what we wear and what we do.
